I thought about bringing this up too, but Emate's right. Think about this:

The VERY first decade, since using AD - it didn't start with the year 0. It started with the year 1. So, the next decade would not start until the year 11.

But, it is common to say a player played in the 80's, 90's, etc.

similar to the centuries thing...i always got confused...why are we in the XXI century (21th) if we are in the year 2000?? because the first century started from year "0" and the second one in the 100 etc. etc....whatever, the thing is i think is that if we are in the 2010 is because we have already lived 2010 years and not because we are living the year 2010 as opposed to the centuries thing..so that would mean the first year was year 0, after it ended, the other year was year 1...right?
