Worst player who won a Slam ?

For me it is between Cilic who never played any atp 500 or m1000 finals & Gaudio who only played 1 SF in slams. I could have propose Gomez but it's far (1990)

It's too soon for Cilic, maybe next year he will win other great tournaments.
I don't think so, but who knows.

And also Wawrinka proved that Australia wasnt just an exploit. Later then, he won Montecarlo, and he should have been in the final today.
I think Stan feels he reached the top of his career, and cannot do better, so he'll never play like that, at the same level.
But this doesn't mean he's a "bad" Grand Slam Champion.

Gomez and Johansson were really good players, so I will not choose them too.

The real Grand Slam mistery, to me, is Gaudio.
I mean...how the f**k did Coria lose that final?

Korda isn't in this category : he played 1 another slam final (RG vs Courrier), won a M1000 (lost 2 finals), won several 500 and 250. Cilic never reached a semi final in M1000 during his whole carreer for instance :lol:

If we look at hit list, this is probably Gaudio. But if we consider game level, lack of diversity in shots and grand slam context the won, then it's between Cilic and Johansson.

C4ill, I know you're French like me and it's hard to say for us, but Yannick Noah can also be included in the list. He's a bit above the other guys you mentionned, with 23 titles and among them 3 tournaments which were equivalent to M1000, but he did not even play one GS semi.

Come on guys, Noah was on a higher level.
He also won tournaments like Rome and Basel, was ranked in top 10 for quite a long period.
And won a lot of great tournaments in double too (I don't know if that's count, anyway).

Probably he was not as good as it required to win a Grand Slam, maybe he had two wonderful weeks.
But if he didn't win RG, he still would have had a really good career.

I think Noah is indeed in the Korda category, a bit better than the guys of this list : 2M1000 (3finals lost), 1 other SF in grand slam, several semis in M1000 and 20 atp 250
