Davis Cup 2014

Discuss all the upcoming davis cup news here!

Anybody have thoughts on fed jumping on the swiss davis cup team at the last minute? They play a serbian team who I believe is not bringing a player in the top 100. Is fed doing it to get the davis cup crown?

If I was fed I would be very selective about the tournaments I enter and really set myself up for Wimbledon. not sure I would waste energy in a competition that has lost most of its glamour.

They've got a good chance now that Stan is at his best level ever, and i guess Federer knows that.

I can see the Americans don't have a team capable of winning the title :)

Netherlands got an away match against Czech Republic. Berdych just reached semis, Sijsling went out in 1st round against Kokkinakis. We're just going to go back to playing promotion/relegation matches..

If Wawrinka can keep up this level then surely Switzerland have a great chance of winning it. But if Spain can play with Nadal and Ferrer then I'm not so sure they'll take them. And maybe France can cause some upset. But yeah, I'd like to see Switzerland take it.

Federer and Wawrinka will play in Davis. Serbia is without Djokovic, Tipsarevic and Troicki.
It seems just a formality, and in QF they should face Kazakistan or Belgium.

Considering that now Stan is The Man, I think it's now or never for the Swiss.

PS And why in the world, Japan choose indoor hard to face Canada?

Are you telling me that you don't find the davis cup exciting?!

I think it would be much better if they arranged it every four years or so

I love tennis and want to love the Davis Cup, but I can't. It's an absolute joke. Embarrassing, actually.

I won't go on because I've said more than enough in the past. Arrrgh! :x

Thanks Coolhand for ruining my day.

Cro is not so wrong.
I quite like Davis Cup, sometimes I watch it on tv, but it doesn't show the real power of a nation. Cause you could win it even with one player (with the right draw).

Yes, you could organize it every 4 years, but then you should completely change its structure (I mean, the structure of a single match between 2 national teams).

yep no passion for the DCup, in my opinion tennis is an individual sport. I don't give a shit if my national team wins Davis Cup, this is not football, basketball etc

Having a Tennis Team "World Championships" without the best players attending because they simply don't feel like attending is pointless. It becomes even more of a joke when you're the only strong player from a particular country (Murray e.g.) who wins his singles matches and is then forced to watch his team losing 2-3 anyway. At least Masters and Grand Slam events are mandatory for most top players.

In this case, mandatory or not, makes no difference. It's not up to Murray if Gbr loses 2-3 when he wins his 2 matches.
And he accused his federations just yesterday (or a couple of days ago), saying that the young players have too much pressure to handle cause of Wimbledon obsession from the british.

sitting here watching young vs murray and I am just so confused as to why the US would choose clay to play on? extremely slow clay at that. Which player on that team likes clay? Isner (if he had played), Querrey, and young have all had better results on hard courts. Murray may not like clay either but I would rather play to my advantage than trying to disadvantage murray

oh and it is not easy watching donald young playing tennis. :??
