All hail the Queen...Serena #17!

Just one more Grand Slam title shy of Chris and Martina...and then the road to reach Steffi and even Margaret Court! This woman is phenomenal, and even battling wind and nerves pulled it out like the champion she is! Victoria gave all she could and had the conditions be favorable could have possibly given Serena a little more but Serena was too tough last night on Ashe and showed why she is still the best in her field. I'm so proud of her. I appreciated the hug at the end of the match between the two ladies. 1 & 2 and both deserved to be in the final...almost 3 hours! I SO love what these two bring to women's tennis! Sadly I feel the end is near for the Williams' sisters after the Olympics in Rio but I have loved every minute of what they've meant to female sports, representing their country when it sometimes didn't appropriately recognize them. :c

18 is very possible but 22, dunno.

I rather see Nadal breaking Fed's record.

Only a select few could possibly stand in the way of her breaking the record...on the men's side Nadal's chances of breaking Federer's record is highly possible as well. Djokovic will be seeking some revenge at the Aussie Open. Nadal is extremely hard to beat when he's fit and it's good to see him healthy this season.

I think one day Nadal's arm will just fly off when he hits a FH, racquet still in his now-detached hand.

The Margaret Court number is very misleading. 10 of her 24 are from the Aussie open when she didn't have to play anybody near her level. So if Serena got to 23 she would be the true record holder in my book.

And her sister Venus has had the biggest affect on her total grand slam.
No Venus = Serena has 20+ slams today

Actual Venus(Shogrands + wrist problems) = Serena 17 slams

Venus 100% healthy = Serena less than 14 slams today, and probably no real chance to catch Graf's 22.

I usually disregard any achievement that happened prior to the Open Era or view it with a pound of salt.

I mean, what are William Renshaw's 7 Wimbledon titles worth when you know that back then the champion was automatically qualified for the next year's final? What are Emerson's 12 Grand Slam singles titles worth when you know that 10 singles titles were won during the time Rod Laver and other strong players were absent for being professionals and barred from competing in the real deal? Prior to 1963 Emerson had a 2-3 finals record vs Laver. Or many players willfully skipping the Australian Open (up until the early 80's actually) because that tournament wasn't mandatory and simply didn't fit into their tour plannings?

Graf's 22 are also misleading because she benefitted immensely from Seles' injury.

It's like...are you REALLY trying to say Billie Jean King was a more dangerous tennis player than Serena????

Or that Pancho Gonzales or 'Big Bill Tilden' used to 'serve better than Sampras' (I swear I think it was that old fool Bid Collins who said that)?

REALLY NAO?!?!?

That statement is spot on. She also came after Everett/Navratilova prime and before Williams sisters/Henin prime.

Anyway, despite Seles' ACCIDENT, Graf shits all over Federer's records, except his 237 straight weeks at No. 1. Navratilova and Evert also had better careers.

Graf is great and all but you cant really compare them roger played best of five slams, masters, yec until they changed the finals to best of 3 masters and yec so you cant compare. interestingly enough last yr during a players meeting before the WTF fed suggested that the yec return to its orginal five set format in the final .naturally the other top tenners disagreed and i know its something he would still to see return as he said so in a Q and A during the clay court season.
