Pity for him looking for "easy" points to climb up in rankings, and pity for seeded players in the next tournies who will be annoyed to face him in 1st rounds (Milos and Tomas already know about this)

"HALLE, Germany (AP) —Top-seeded Roger Federer looked rusty but beat German wild card Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-3, 6-3 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open."

How many times are they going to say "Federer looked rusty" before they realize he's old and just not that good anymore.

I guess people don't realize that when you turn older you lose strength, speed, stamina..., and yeah that also happens to Federer and to every single person on the face of the earth
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

He's not even that old yet.. He still has 2-3 years left in him.. People talk like if he's 70 year old grandpa

I agree. Going on 35 now and I can attest to that. The younger guys don't understand the "grey" area in competitive sport. Sure, he is not 70 years old....but he is old enough to lose the edge, same edge that made him better then other players. He is capable of sparks, here and there.....but he does not have the solidity of Andre or his returns to actually win a slam at 35.

But Fed-fans never let reality get in the way, so....

While he is playing I would never count a player of Fed's quality out. Even with his diminished skills he's probably the best grass courter playing. The main thing it gives him is confidence to play. Look at 2008, if clay and grass were the same now as some make out, how did he get destroyed in the French final only to play one of the best matches ever.

The game has changed now but great players have a history of going deep by having a hot run late in their career, sampras 2002, connors 1991, Andre 2005, even Goran 2001 who was pretty washed up by then. And Federer is more capable than those players. But with age comes a rarity in these performances and it's sad to say but as djarvik says feds level will slowly diminish with odd moments of greatness that become fewer and fewer.
