Kim Clijsters regains number one world ranking

Kim Clijsters will replace Caroline Wozniacki as world number one on Monday after beating Jelena Dokic 6-3 6-0 in the quarter-finals of the Paris Open.

Clijsters, 27, has held top spot three times before, twice in 2003 and once in 2006 before retiring in 2007 to have a child, only to make a stunning return.

The Belgian won the 2009 US Open, retaining the title last year and then adding the Australian Open this year.

I like Caro but didn't like that fact she was number one without a grand slam. And the added hype around her at the Aussie this year when the "so-called" experts and commentators know she simply can't win a grand slam the way she is playing. At one point Serena was holding two grand slams and was number two

Thumbs up for saint Kim.
Seems I can't cross that threshold just yet :(

And Kim hasn't just been winning Slams she has also been bagging big tier 1 titles like Miami, Cincy and the Tour Finals. She may not be there for long though as Caroline will probably now play every week to get it back.

 you're right Fed! Cuz that's what she did to take the number one spot in the first place lol. :tu thumbs up for Kim though!!!

She deserves to be number one and I hope she dominates the year. I might even change my avatar to Mrs. Clijsters...

Clijsters occupying the top spot is a damn sight better than having that golden retriever masquerading as the world's best.

Masquerade! Grinning yellows, spinning reds
Masquerade! Take your fill, let the spectacle astound you
Masquerade! Burning glances, turning heads
Masquerade! Stop and stare at the sea of smiles around you
Masquerade! Seething shadows breathing lies
Masquerade! You can fool any friend who ever knew you
Masquerade! Leering satyrs, peering eyes
Masquerade! Run and hide, but a face will still pursue you.

You've infected me! The lyrics are now in my head as well.

Clijsters

Postby MysteryPlayer » Sat, 12 Feb 2011 13:58

Yea great for her but she did play a low ranked tournament and the ranking was 575. Yea I agree tyra banks is a fantastic tennis player. but when serena is back healthy and possibly venus clijsters will be known as formal number 1 in my book. Clijsters go play tennis with the big leaguers and not the beginners

Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

Henin and Sharapova were both due to play in Paris and it fit into her schedule as she played in Belgium at the weekend, she hardly avoids the big events, it's pretty much all she plays nowadays.

Serena is better but who knows if she is even coming back and Venus is always carrying some injury, and Kim has beaten her on the way to all three of her US Open titles.

Can't wait for Serena to come back!

The few players who are up to Clijsters level are injured or are on a slump of epic proportions. Clijsters doesn't even have to play well anymore to win matches.
