US Open Tickets

I am moving to New York in a few days and of course couldn't be more excited with the option of attending one of the finest tennis events of the season! So far I only had the chance to go to the annual Challenger event in Athens, which shocked me so much with the quality of tennis, that I wouldn't dare to grab a racquet for the next month or so! -Maybe I get a stroke or something in the USO??

So I'd like to ask the NYers in here, as well as the experienced Grand Slam fans which tickets and sessions hold the best value? I should let you know that I'm not interested in WTA at all and my schedule will be too busy to attend after the 1st of September.
Therefore, I was thinking of either getting a general grounds admission sometime in the first days in order to have a great close view of competitive top-level tennis in the small courts (would love to watch something like Verdasco vs. Lu or Klizan vs. Goffin), or pay 100-150$ for a decent ticket in the R16 Arthur Ashe session on the 1st of September (hoping to watch the Fed of course!). I also think that getting to watch some of the top pros practicing is quite worthwhile.

"100-150$ for a decent ticket in the R16 Arthur Ashe" - good luck with that unless your definition of "decent" drastically varies from mine, you should expect to pay 2-3x that for a decent ticket.

What you want to do is to come there next Sunday, for open practice day. No admission fee and you will get to see a lot of players practicing up close. On outer courts you may even be able to interact with them. Artur Ashe will be closed, but Armstrong and Grand Stan will be open and you can get a seat there or walk around, as you wish. Usually there is no official schedule, but each pair of players get to practice for one hour on one court. They will hit around for 20 min and then play a set.

Next suggestion would be to get a ground ticket for the first week, first-second-third day. This will let you see a LOT of tennis on outer courts and access to Armstrong and Grand Stan.

Personally, I don't like to go to Ashe unless I have a "decent" ticket. The stadium is too big....although for the atmosphere - buy a NIGHT ticket and lots of beer - you will enjoy/
