while ill see where you get upset at roger for that xavi, i feel like at the time it was in more response to the lesson nadal was giving him on the court that day i still don't think he should retire. the guy obviously still loves to play, and lets face it, if nadal is not in the tournament then fed has a shot of winning it

To be honest I do think it's the right time to retire, not because that comments and all that stuff but because Roger is one of the best if not the best player of all times and now he's going downhill, not a fan but i respect him and don't wanna see him losing in early rounds. Call me crazy but choosing the right time to quit is very important, these players should retire at their prime.

I think Roger is still better than 90 percent of the competition, so it would be rather silly for him to retire because he can't beat one guy (Rafa)...he is still undoubtedly better than everybody else playing tennis in the ATP currently

In 2013 Federer lost to the likes of: Brands, Monfils, Robredo, Stakhovsky, Delbonis, Nishikori & Benneteau.

For a guy of Federer's stature, that's embarrassing.

My guess, if Federer were single and without children he would have retired by now, protecting his legacy. He plays on because he doesn't want to be locked in a house with two screaming kids and a pregnant Mirka.

Last year he had fitness problem. This year he's already playing better. He still has the shot of winning a grand slam. It ll be stupid for him to retire. I don't know why people don't get it. Rafa is 27 and he still runs like 18 year old guy. When federer reached 27 people said that he's getting slow and old. It's just federer style of playing that makes him look more aged

Yes I m talking about the way he moves on court to reach the balls.. He does move very slow on court sometimes he's even walking to approach the balls

Yes the proof is even in this age he's still beating top players. Nadal is an exception though

its probably my bias showing through of wanting to keep watching Roger on tv. I think its safe to say that as tennis fans we have been spoiled this past decade.

As long as he still enjoys playing on tour (he does), he should keep playing. Just because you were a great player and are past your prime, doesn't mean you need to retire.

He's 32 playing in the most physical era of tennis ever, and yet he's still a top 5 player, at 32? You definitely don't retire when you're a top 5 player, if he were ranked 15 or higher and wasn't able to compete with the top guys, I would agree, but since late last year only Nadal has beat him easily. He had a bad year last year with his back bothering him, yet still finished #6. Finished the year pretty strong, played good against everyone not named Nadal. He looked pretty good at the AO as well.

Obviously Nadal has his number, especially now. But against everyone else, he has a shot to win on any day. He has shown this with his play late last year and at the AO this year. I think Fed will have a good year.
