Who's your favorite tennis commentator?

Postby BluudyEEfingaz » Wed, 01 Aug 2012 06:57

Of course the action is on the courts, but some of the greatest points are usually heightened when you hear the excitement of the commentator. These voices make the game even more interesting by fueling debate or otherwise. Choose your favorite commentator from one of our most beloved sports.

Best: Johnny Mac.Always provides a good insight into the game, commentating from the athlete's perspective and has a good sense of humour.

Worst: Boris Becker.Always stating the obvious with that dull deep voice of his makes me go into sleep mode.

Ciao Bluudy

Heinz Günthardt & Stefan Bürer for me. Swiss commentators.

They have a great style to comment the matches.

Really enjoy, how they attend a tennis match. Not just talking about the tennis match, but also behind the scenes of the players. And also making funny jokes. Really enjoyable.

And tecnically on a high level, great!!

BTW, Heinz Günthard won in 1981 & 1985 two GS.

1981: French Open & in this year also finalist US Open
1985: Wimbledon

And two Mixed GS titles also.

If I would understand better english, maybe I could also participate at your poll.

ciao
Grande Roger, il numero uno al mondo!!!

I like John McEnroe, he always seemed to be most willing to voice an honest opinion, especially during the Wimbledon and 'Murray Mania'

Generally speaking, in my opinion, practically all the European commentators are better than American commentators.

On the plus side for the US, Johnny Mac is good, not great. Brad Gilbert is a bit unpolished but I enjoy the unique slant he brings to matches.

On the negative side, they don't come any worse than Justin Gimelstob. Hands down the worst of the worst. Not even close.

Boris Becker...

My favourite is probably BBC's David Mercer. Can't stand Mac.

I have to agree with Cro Morgan. Spot on. Justin Gimelstob is by far the worst. No contest. 8)

The BBC team at Wimbledon is good every year John McEnroe is probably the best for the men's matches.and the women's side you have Lindsay davenport and Tracey Austin

Gimelstob is a tool a lot of the time, but every once in a while he says something hilarious or practically clairvoyant.
I like him more than I used to.

I'm starting to like Virginia Wade. She brings some odd trashiness with her, can never tell whether she's about to cry or just tipsy.
