I tried to prove you wrong, but you're correct.

Give those 10 respect points from Tsonga and another 200 to Fed.

Found this quote on the first google result though, haha!
He once did get a fine for violating the 'best effort' rule, though - back in his early days in 1998 during a tournament in Küblis. He did an awesome job of not retiring in that match, double faulting at least twice in every game. LOL.
Nobody's perfect.

I understand your position emate, I was just guessing that if he retired, that was because he felt that was the better solution for him, and honestly I didn 't saw yet that he had in fact nothing serious, so yeah, he could have finish that match, but I do respect his 'choice".

And for Nadal, sometimes bad faith yeah..
Anyway, playing when injured appears to me to be be the worst choice ever for your career in general, in a short-term way for incoming tournaments, and in a long-term way for career's 'life expectancy'..
I rather prefer quit in a contest like this with a small injury that could become worse than shorten my career by repetitive and recurrent injuries..

And I don't think it's a matter of 'being a man' as you said or cowardness, just knowing his body and a bit of common sense.

Look, I agree that any player who's injury may threaten their career, their year, or even the month should retire. That was clearly not the case in this situation. I play a lot of tennis, and have played through lots of minor and not so minor injuries. I've also had to retire from 2 tournaments (and was really angry both times), so I'm well aware of the degree of injury it takes to seriously hinder your game.

Back to the actual topic, I had initially picked Kohl over Roddick but reversed it... I think Andy has had a mental block against that guy since he was beaten at the AO a few years back when Kohl wore that annoying optic yellow shirt, haha! He never seems to play well against him.
