It took about one full season to figure out Vick and any team with an average defense at best could shut him down for the most part. So he had to learn to actually be able to read defenses and become a better passer. Plus he gets hurt all the time.

The Miami Heat struggled at first because they had all these athletic freaks but they didnt know to play with each other so they struggled for a while. Then when they got to the finals they played a team that can shoot really well and the Miami Heat for the most part espically Leborn cant shoot that well. Miami most relied on there athleticism and it ended up costing them. Pure athleticism doesnt always translate to winning.

ehhh...

vick destroyed almost every D he saw last yr...and that was with a horrible oline. hes far from being an elite QB between the ears but his skillset is probably second to none in the history of the gm.

the heat were 3 all stars and some FA pickups this past yr. u neglect to mention how wade singlehandedly defeated the mavs in 06, how jordan won 6, kobe, shaq, magic, jabbar...all tremendous athletes, on a level not possible, to be blunt, for white men, all dominated the gm when they played.

im not saying pure athleticism = guaranteed victory. im saying that tennis, and many other sports, are basically off limits to the most athletic segment of society, and instead reserved for mostly privileged suburban/affluent white kids. hockey, tennis, and golf (and it could be argued soccer) are the only sports not currently dominated by non-caucasians. and those sports remain such simply because of the cost to play them.

Black people play basketball because they see other black people playing basketball. They don't play tennis because they don't see other black people playing tennis. We all have a natural tendency to want to be like people who we can relate to, and on the most basic level, we relate to people who look like us.

Culture plays a big role too. Black or white, we aren't seeing a lot of Americans at the top of tennis - because tennis just simply isn't as popular in America as other sports. Schools don't put much money into their tennis programs, communities don't put much money into tennis facilities, etc. Look at Russia. When did we start seeing a lot of Russian women at the top of tennis? After it became an Olympic sport, and the government started throwing money at it. In 10-15 years, we're going to see a lot of Chinese players at the top - after Li Na made the Aus. Open final, China built a huge facility to train tennis players. And if you want to talk about sports that give the most reward for physical attributes, I think gymnastics is the best example. But who dominates gymnastics? China. Why? Because their government throws a lot of money into it.

And I also don't believe the best athletes are necessarily the best at tennis. There are probably a bunch of better athletes than Nadal playing, but they don't get noticed because only the top players get noticed. Nadal's athleticism plays a big role, but his mental strength and skill play much larger roles. Tennis requires a lot of skill, which isn't necessarily an outcome of athleticism. Lebron may dominate basketball because of his athleticism, but basketball requires fewer skills than tennis. What skills does Lebron need? Dribbling and shooting? What skills do you need for tennis? Each stroke is a separate skill, and you need all of them to be at the top. Just because Lebron can play basketball, doesn't mean he could do crap on a tennis court.

Won't see a white guy win a running race, won't see a black guy win a swimming contest and unlikely to see a winner in table tennis/badminton that isn't asian...

There we go. My view is out.

Last year Vick didnt run as much and by far had his best passing year. I was talking about before he got onto the eagles. He is a much better player now and alot harder to have a game plan against.

Jordan, Kobe, and Magic three of the best shooters all time  They had great athleticism and were all great shooters. Kobe is still able to play now because hes still one of the best if not the best shooter.

Anyone who wants a career in tennis has to sacifice much more finacially and tennis requires much more time to get really good at than most other sports.
Where do you get idea the better athleles are poor? I disagree with that completely

I've been trying to find the logic in that as well. I assume it's for one of two reasons:

Poor people have to work harder.
or
There are a higher percentage of poor people who are black than rich people.

Personally, I'm not buying that. However, maybe poor people are more likely to choose sports as a means to make money - which is a shame, because you have a higher chance of becoming a brain surgeon than you do at becoming a highly paid professional athlete.

of course none of this applies across the board but here goes...

generally pro athletes come from 2 kinds of backgrounds: 1) poor and gifted or 2) financially comfortable and trained. so you have the impoverished kid in harlem playing bball 8 hrs a day on the street vs the well-off country club kid who gets lessons 5x/wk and goes to academies/camps during the summer, etc. 2 totally different worlds, obviously. if the country club kid has a good amount of skill and sticks to it they have a chance to become a pro in whatever they do simply because they have access to professional training from an early age. if the poor kid has a TREMENDOUS amount of skill they might get noticed and get a chance to excel at a high level, which might end up being professionally.

the surgeon vs pro athlete statement is nothing but a perpetuated fallacy to demean impoverished people and the ways they choose to get out of their situation. a child born in the ghetto to an uneducated mother and a deadbeat father has a chance to be a brain surgeon? hell nah...they have a small chance to go to college and push paper so someone else makes money while they live the lower middle class "dream". thats their big chance to make it big unless they use talent in the arts or sports to get out. people can only know what is around them...they cant magically see rainbows when the sky is always grey...

and the above is a big part of why on many levels of sports the poor kid will usually beat the financially comfortable kid. for the poor kids its a way of life, a part of their soul; for the middle class+ kid its a gm to get girls or get attention.

/quote] yea me too remember when the cavailiers lost to the lakers in the playoffs he refused to shake kobes hand saying I lost so I' don't have to shake his hand.

And even in his press-conference after losing to the mavricks he showed no humility in defeat . That's why like d-wade he gave the mavericks credit.
