Safina v Kvitova

OMG Safina lost to Petra Kvitova at the 2009 US. :O 6-4 2-6 7-6 (5)

I enjoyed watching this match, but it was very strange. Safina seemed to adopt this weird defensive style of play against this girl, who is honestly just a ball blaster. Why would she do that? Thats like the worst style you can use against Kvitova.

The amount of errors from Kvitova was HUGE (59 i think) and if Safina played more aggressive, Kvitova wouldnt have hit as many winners passed her (47). Safina had three match points at 5-6 on Kvitova's serve, but couldn't put it away, again because of this defense (Kvitova saved all 3 match points with winners).

What do u guys think?

PS: PLEASE can someone post up highlights of this match on YouTube or something, because i know someone who wants to see this match badly.

i wouldnt necessarily say that though, becuz she normally plays well until the later stages of tours and slams. look at 2009 as whole, 2 titles, 2 GS finals and one GS semi. dunno what happnd in the US open for her.

Actually Safina makes the most of what she has but her whole game is so mechanical it breaks down easily under pressure as she lacks much natural feel.

i just think safina's level has dropped since the last part of 09 (aside from her back injury of course). Her confidence has taken a huge knock since people starting criticising her number 1 position, and she started losing matches badly.

The US open was particularly bad, and i just think this match was a classic example of what the press and the other players have done to her. She's a fantastic player, but she feels the pressure to much. Thats my opinion. Thanks for the website by the way, it kinda proves my point.

Wasnt posting this just to summarise the match, but i think this loss and this tournament may have caused her to fall down a bit.

i know a safina fan, and he wants to see how she played in this match, and who kvitova is. he thinks that this match caused some large downfall for her. i thought as im on the itst, i might aswell ask u guys if u have seen any video highlights of this match, or could post up any video highlights on youtube for him to see.
