Ok, I'll continue. I nominate myself as the "Wrath of Short Slices" with 25% of my points coming from them.

It's not a thing to be proud of :) Everyone can spam short slices to win baseline points... i just use them in a very few matches and in 5% of points, and someone even complained about it

God damn it, inseedious you broke the cycle.
It's a place to nominate yourself, not discuss the game flaws that are there to be exploited. You should have sheepishly continued nominating and let the ITST nation decide.

But now you ruined it, I might as well talk a little about short slice. I'd say 80% of the people are total baseliners. Heck, most of them stand so far from the baseline that I can't help but punish them with short slices and dropshots.
And this creates an illusion that I'm spamming and playing a cheesy game. But WTF are you doing so deep outside the court. From that far distance, even CPU can't come and reach the ball. One day I saw this funny phenomenon. I "spammed" 5 dropshots in a row and my opponent tried to run as hard as he could. I looked at his stamina (not instant energy) and it had dropped by 2 bars. I played long rallies and even then I don't lose that much stamina.

Not everyone likes to hit the ball like you do with federer. I want to slice the ball and confuse as much as I can.

i agree with uchiha. I'm tired of "spamming" remarks. If its a shot that can be done in tennis then its not spam. The only pure spam out here is lobbing first serve returns. That just isn't done. short slices are done in tennis. So if someone wants to use them to exploit deep baseline play, its totally tennis.

serving from corner is pretty spammy too, but its easy to defend, so let chumps do it.

My "spam" term was not offensive. However, I can clearly understand that short slices are used in ATP tour, but TE's ones are too effective because of the moving system and our slow autopos+sim controls setup, that makes countering them very difficult. However, i don't wanna start a flame, so I won't say anything more about this.

Hitting short slices on every point after serves, especially when having a Big serve - is short-slice spamming to me. And is cheesy and fairly boring.

Fez - I am sure someone somewhere hit a lob on a first serve return in ATP. So by your logic - its not spamming/cheesy correct? ...after all, this shot IS possible to hit in tennis, despite the fact that it will be destroyed by opponent - hence they dont hit it.

It is quite similar with Short slice, besides Fed and Murray out there, I don't see many if any short slices hit at all, unless they are poorly executed normal slices. Reason? ...because if you not proficient enough, hitting it will result in a put-away by your opponent, hence majority of ATP avoids these. But in TE, we are all "masters" of short slice - by default. That is why I agree with inseedious that "spamming" it is cheesy, much like hitting lobs on returns and lobs mid rally.

All valid and executable shots in real life and ARE part of tennis, but because of ITST philosophy and TE's translation on Tennis Game they become significantly more effective then in real life, hence terms Cheesy, Spam etc are born and are also a Valid description of players who choose to resort to these tactics. We at ITST were always striving to realism, hence we have the cheese/spam rules and so on....

Draw your own conclusions, but just try to keep in mind the Spirit of this place and what it represents.

I was speaking pretty loosely djarvikboy. If you take my words to logical extreme, then of course you can upend me.

So gimme room!

I just mean that of all the cheese out here, short slices are the least ridiculous.

short slices are cheesy, no doubt about it. they should have much less success ratio, to be hard to execute like drop shots for example. if you hit dropshot on hard incoming ball it will be extremely poor. the problem with short slice is it is perfect no matter how hard incoming ball is. on the other hand, this should be effective against players who play far back, but its cheesy. could be playing all way back is equaly cheesy so its ok to play it. i dont know. i used to play short slices and won many points by them and thought i was so cool :P now i know i wasn't

No, that would be cheese. The term spam means to do something repeatedly, over the top. For example, in forum terms, posting a meme picture every post, without saying anything, is spam. In tennis terms, hitting slices every shot, is spam. But it's not cheese, necessarily. You can spam any shot in tennis. Gulbis spams dropshots, Nadal spams banana-shots, Raonic spams Aces etc etc

Cheese is different, and cheese is bad. You don't get cheese in real tennis, though. Cheese is purely an exploitation of a game mechanic. Such as standing at the tramlines to serve out wide every time.
