I rate Davydenko higher than Ferrer, what did you expect from me? :P

Indeed. I think to re-enforce this we need to update Davy in our roster, to basically be Ferrer +1 in every stat. 8)

C4iLL vs Napalm : 6-3, 6-4.

I had train a bit with Napalm weeks ago, and he made me a really good impression, so I was expecting a huge challenge from him today ! But in fact, I think he was far from his best level and it was pretty easy for me.

First set, I broke by being agressive, and after I just had to control the set.
Second set was a bit like that too.

He sometimes showed a good ability to aim lines, but that wasn't regular, with some easy mistakes, bad tactics (bad net approaches for instance).

At the end, even if I won, I'm a bit disappointed he didn't play at the level I thought he had  It's his first match on the tour, so it's maybe the explanation with the pressure etc (+ apparently lack of train).

It was my second match, I haven't had "bye" in first round. ;-)
Yep, it was a strong lesson. The game was so fast, I was running from left corner to right like Road Runner ( ), but what for? C4iLL finished me via volleys. I couldn't hit short angle shots, which I used to play. I couldn't find correct position and played outs. But it happens.
I need more practice with guys on high level, that's obvious. But I have to be pleased - my first tournament, one win, one loss. :D
It will be better. :c

Spencercarlos def Robbin92 6-3 7-6(3)

Great match, i think Robbin as Nadal is quite difficult to play, i don´t want to imagine this match on clay.

The first set was pretty straight forward, we both held our serves and got the break at 2-1 up and we held throught til the 6-3.

In the second set things started to get tougher, i think he found his way on the rallies, and i felt that Federer gets tired and is so difficult to counter act Nadal after that.
Somehow with a lot of luck i got a break for *3-2 but he inmediately broke back and he looked way better on the returns and held for 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 lead, i think he was two points away from the set at some point, but then it went to a tiebreak.

The tiebreak was kind of lucky, i broke, and found two aces to put it 3-0, then 4-0. He got one minibreak back but it was too late, it ended 7-3.

I am really happy i have seen Robbin (youtube clip from the Usopen) and i believe he is a great player, probably more lucky playing this Nadal and not that Federer (from the clip)

Now against Michael i hope not to get double bagel

Gotta make a quick report: VMoe86 (Cilic) defeats PerfectAce (Federer) 6-4, 6-0

Well, the match took place in rather windy conditions, with which I could deal better. The first set was still close and I could see several improvements PerfectAce made since our last match at Olympics (did not check it, so maybe I'm wrong). He used top spin and b1 intelligently to counter my attacks, turning defence into attack. As Cilic I was looking to go for my shots and most of the time my timing was there. On serve I mainly hit b1 serves, best solution in these conditions. Thus I had a good percentage of 1st serves in and won.

PA asked to rehost the match when starting from the second set and I agreed, maybe it would help. Only in the first game the lag was ok, but then we always had very brief freezes occuring. I kept up my level, but his dropped, most importantly the 1st serve percentage (only 33%), which is just not enough.

A pity that a possibly very nice match had to be influenced in this way. :| I offered PA to try on Thursday, but he accepted the result as a good sportsman. As I told him: The result, especially the second set, does not reflect his level.

Have to agree with Vmoe in his comments. I could keep the match close until the lag started. Then he really managed it better than me. And if I consider that he is one of the best players here, playing without a good 1st serve was deadly.

I was really frustrated after the 2nd set, because I really felt that I could give him some trouble. Well, maybe next time...

Good luck in the rest of the tournament Vmoe.

C4iLL vs Indiantonike, quarter final = 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
As I know now Indian for more than a year (we played amazing matchs on TS4 xbox tour) now, always training with him on TE, it was then quite funny to play against him in official ;)

First set : he played really bad, I led 4-0 and as I was completely dominating, I then began to try a lot of crazy things like always aiming the lines etc, the goal was to make him play better in fact ^^

Second set : he was still not very good at beginning, and from nowhere, he got a break with 4 balls which hit the net and became winners lol !
At that moment, I directly come back with the break back so 2-2. At that moment I continue to play not seriously, and he earned another break !

After that, I played at 100% but he had definitely taken confidence, and he became impossible to break, so I lost the set lol

Third set : he played at a very high level on the exchanges, with lot of cross-courts etc, and I told myself "You're so stupid, you gave him confidence, and now he's a beast, you can't break him anymore ^^".

Result : at 4-4, we were 30-a, and he hit amazing shots always on lines/great passing shots ! Hopefully I won this serve, but it was hot ^^
At 5-4, I finally broke and won the match lol.

To sum-up : first and second set were total jokes, third set was very close and serious with a high level. At the end, I had fun, and I laughed a lot :c

Agreed on your opinion, it was a good match where I started a bit slow and you broke me soon. If I remember correctly I had two break points, but I had no opportunity to convert them due to excellent play of Spencer.
In the second set I felt more confortable with Nadal, but in the tiebreak/big points I miss some calmness in my play.
I pity that I'm still far from the level I once had around the US Open and Cincinatti, but I don't have the time to train as much as I used to which affects my level.
Well deserved victory and GL for next rounds Spencer!

Btw, that clip is already watched 1300+ times. I hope it attracted some players to the tour!

Semifinal
MichaelD def Spencercarlos alias la zorra. 6/1 6/4

Amazing match, towards moment he was not enjoying such an attractive match. Save many break points, and I believe that was annoyed because of it. 8)

 Great match at least this one was decent, you GUESS.

I had 3 break points in set 1 did not convert. The rest was history. In the second set i had 2 more in two different games and was not breaking, up until 61 41 i figured out the correct strategy (copy yours http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m49ppaPQcG1rpxctz.gif ), got one break back, and held but it was all too late, you were stronger and deserved to win.

And the second finalist is there: C4iLL (Llodra) defeats VMoe86 (Cilic) 4-6, 6-4, 6-1

About the match itself there is not much to say, I must admit. In the first set, I was never in trouble on serve and he gifted me one break with I don't know how many double faults -- surely three or four! It was really strange winning the set that way.

Then, in the second set, he broke me right away and got to a 2-0 lead. He definitely upped his level and stayed on it. I was lucky to get back in the set, but he managed to put pressure on me afterwards and at 4-5 I took a risky shot, missed it and thus he won the set.

Third set, again he broke early. I was getting frustrated, because my returns were not good and he was defending so well, that I got impatient. I still won a couple of great points, but in the end he was too good, he was playing at a great level.

Good luck to him in the final!

Yep I beat my double faults record I think in a match :/ And troughout all the match I had not the feeling to serve well, especially during the first two sets (approximately 50% of first serve...).

The big battle was around the end of the second set, where I finally won the set by breaking him. Afterwards, I really felt I had the mental edge and as I served better + great baseline level, it was okay.
But it would have not been unfair if he had won that in two sets, he would have deserved it.

A good tactical match anyway but i'm now a bit exhausted mentally ("Elias US Open feeling" ^^).

Final MichaelD vs C4iLL = 7-6, 6/3.

This time, I think I played at a good level (in the contrary of our first match).
I play this one with specific tactics that allowed me to control and sometimes dominate a lot of exchanges. It's really strange because throughout all the match I had the feeling to control the game, but at the end I lost.

What's the explanation then ?

The problem was the conclusion of the points : I often put him out of the court, but when I needed to finish the point, I made a lot of easy faults (even on volleys or baseline easy acceleration). Everything on the wrong side of the line... It's off course part of my style which is based on maximum risk.

So on his service, it went a lot to 30-A situations, we even played a 31 shots exchange, it was very tactical. But the faults killed me : 30 faults on 2 sets :/

In the tie-break, I made 4 faults I think, and on the break he did on second set, I made 3 faults on volleys to be led 0-40...
I somehow give him the match, but I'm happy however, it was very funny ! I also must say that Michael has a great anticipation which allows him to defend very well, he's surely the guy who antiipcates the best smashes for instance !
