Lets open an interesting file : the Davis Cup, which must interest a lot of people !

This competition is opened to everybody : it's not only the best players who participate, there can be several teams by country (Team France 3 vs Team Italia 2 is possible for instance).
If you are alone from your country on ITST, you can create a regional team with players from countries close to yours.

I think it could be the best ITST experience ever regarding the available ressources, the chat, the in game lobby that can be used as a live score and the growing number of active players from all around the world.

And yesterday I thought something : the participants would only play with players from their own their countries !
If you look at the roster, a lot of countries / regions are indeed covered :

- English will pick Murray, USA will have Fish/Harisson/Isner, Canada have Raonic
- South American Del Potro-Nalbandian, Australia has Tomic, French have Tsonga/Gasquet,
- Germany has Kohlshcreiber / Haas, Benelux has Goffin
- Czech has Berdych and Stephanek, Croatia has Cilic, Romania-Bulgaria-Ukrainia could pick Dimitrov, Dolgopolov, Gulbis , Russia has Youhzny / Davyenko
- Greeks could play with Badghatis, Asians with Nishikori, Serbians have Djokovic/Tipsa, Swiss has Wawrinka/Fed, Spain has Nadal, Ferrer etc. North african teams could play with french players.

The only real problem would be Italia and Portugal. Seppi or Fognigni could be created just for that purpose as Gil.

This present a lot of advantages :
1) It will inforce the feeling to play for you country
2) It will incent people to pick more various players on official tournaments to practice for Davis Cup. The whole roster will then be finally used.
3) The matches will always be different and varied on competition. No Fed vs Fed or irrealistic things like that. Matches will be more interesting then.
4) The competition will be potentially more surprising.
A high ranked player used to play with Federer in official tournaments, but forced to play with a Del Potro for a match, could be in trouble against an average guy using his Davis Cup character on every tournament (Berdych for instance).
If the high ranked guy would have picked Federer, he would have won for sure : no incertainty...
--> as in real life, a less skilled team who practice a lot with their characters, will be more able to beat top players who are less motivated to practice with their national characters.
Ex : MichaelD with Nalbandian may be beated by Dimitrov using Dimitrov as he's extremely used to his character !
5) As it will require training planning, the captain job will be more interesting.
6) As everybody will have to practice to get suit to their new characters, this will increase the community spirit and social links between members.

I am surely in and play with your country players only is an awesome idea! Cos Berdych Stepanek is best Davis Cup team ever


I agree with you in every point and I guess there are a lot of players from different countries at tour so we can make about 8 teams

But could we have a match between two teams of the same country ? Because for example France have a lot of players here. There are like 5 players from France just in the top 12. Could we have Team France 2 vs Team France 3 ?

How is the captain chosen, and what must he do ? I mean, if there are several teams for the country, do every team have a captain, or do they share the same captain ?

Interesting idea but what about our members who don't have a player from their country? Sweden, Netherlands, North Korea, just to name a few..

We could say for Swedish that Soderling is back just for Davis Cup ?
Netherlands would play with Belgium members in the same team as they are too few and would play with Goffin which is an intersting character with his counter ! Or maybe Haase could also be created as some guys here wanted him to appear in the roster a few months ago.
Korea, and all asian, even from Indian would play with Nishikori

1) Yes, on Top Spin Davis Cup, it happened that a team from france meets another team from France on the draw. It's not realistic but it's funnier if everybody can be involved !

We could even think about a Davis Cup with 2 divisions as in real life, if there are a lot of teams that may only have Challenger / Future level. With a second division then, even beginners will have a lot of fun
And if the competition is appreciated a lot, and very active, we could even do two Davis Cup by season and then make the teams from division 2 promoted in division 1 at the end off a season via playoff vs the worst team of division 1 !

2) The captain is elected by its national community on the forum. Each country open a topic on a Davis Cup sub forum and the people from the country elect the captain on a topic. Corruption is allowed

About the Nishikori question I don't know, this has to be asked to the staff

Wonderful idea mate! But we mustn stop only with ideas, we have to action! Because we know what happened with WTT. I think that everyone will be proud to play for his own country! So Al, Elias and Vmoe please dont just pass by this idea, think about it!

I think it would be indeed fun to start that as soon as possible but I don't know what are the plans staff

On TS4 the Davis Cup was a disastrous because there was no community spirit and no social links between people (no space to chat for instance). And the game was so repetitive that it was boring to play many matches... The tournament never ended ^^

On TE it's totally different : if ressources are granted to this competition, it could become a huge success, with maybe 2 Davis Cup by year and fun for everyone with 2 divisions of different levels.

As you say, it's good to talk but it's better to do : I'm then available to help organizing the tournaments and matches if people are needed.
