It's not a case that the players who have the highest overall stats are all round players (except murray, who has other impressive numbers).
Well obviously there will be more important stats since it's just an averaged out stats after all. But why do you have to bring up defender as an example and talk about volleying crap. What kind of defender needs volley skills. On top of that volley skills are 3rd rate skills. Serve, fore/backhand are highly prioritised. Then comes slice, net presence skills. after that volleying, smash, return. Just analyse Raonic. He has a massive serve and one of the best forehands on ITST tour. His backhand is inferior but still better than others. His speed is lower than stamina so more endurance for him. Wawrinka definitely has all around skills. I'm not saying his an all-around player but his stats, all of them are pretty good. Murray has better top spin than other 2. So he has a little bit more time and that justifies it. His dropshot skill is amazing, which I think is the same for slice. Slices are really nice if you combine them with short slice. In a way overall stats have more meaning than you think. I've played with all of those 4 players and I know from a feeling that they're indeed better. Even djokovic is not a luxury player for me.
