What happens when too many players sign up?

Postby PForsberg » Wed, 09 Jan 2013 13:48

HI folks,

I have a question regarding the upcoming Australian Open Tournament. Right now there are 59 valid signups, so it is possible that more will come and it will be more than 64. Whats happens then? I suppose that the 64 best ranked players that sign up will get their spot no matter what. But what happens when there are 5 spaces left an 20 unranked players have already signed up? What decides who is allowed to play? First come - first served? Or is it completely by chance? Or can even ranked players not signup for a tournament where enough players have already signed up?

I have not found an answer to this question yet, so I hope that you can help me here :-)

Thanks in advance!

Sign up will be closed as soon as there are 64 valid signups. If ITST staff decides to open sign up to have more than 64 players, then all players will play, no matter your rank, the date you signed up. In this case, some best ranked players will have a walkover at the first round

First come first served, yes.

We typically expand the draw when the tournament is full well in advance of the start date. With the Australian Open slated to begin soon, in this case, the draw will likely stay at 64.

NOTE: The draw has been expanded. So, if you were thinking of signing up, but haven't yet, now is the time.
