Things I hate about TE2013

-The movement is terrible

Before you tell me "it's a sim, it's supposed to be hard." Or, "you just suck and haven't played the game long enough." I've been playing regular tennis elbow for a year, and then ITST mod for another year so It's not that I haven't played enough. The movement (which is the reason I still get weak hits and occasionally miss the ball all together) Is sluggish and feels like your player has weights attached to his ankles. I've tried playing with a gamepad but I gave up and went back to the keyboard. The problem is there are 8 directions to go to position your player and when you're trying to set up for shots he has a mind of his own and sometimes starts sprinting when you think he's gonna walk and vice versa. So you end up over running tons of balls or coming up short and missing the ball completely. After over a year of playing this gets pretty damn annoying and shouldn't be happening. Running up court to get a drop-shot you have to run in a straight line and then diagonally at the last second  It's soo freaking hard to get in the right position consistently to do short accelerations with such terrible movement. It doesn't feel like you're controlling a player because the response time is soo slow, it feels like you have to anticipate absolutely everything because once your player is moving, he's like a runaway train.

-It's hard to read the ball

It's hard to tell how deep the ball is going to land, which results in lots of errors. In real life you can tell when it's going to be a deep hit and you just step back but sometimes in TE you really just can't tell. It dunno if it's an issue with the shadow of the ball or something else. I've tried removing the ball blur and that helps a bit.

I have other complaints but I'll save those for later. Pretty annoyed with this game right now.

Well your advice is interesting, it may explain why people starts the game and may stop it soon.

About your 2 critics I've however two things to answer :

1) I can personally hit short accels constantly and we are maybe 15 players able to do that on the ITST tour with the characters of the mod and maybe 30 to hit them occasionally without errors.

Of course at beginning it's a sensitive shot and it's hard to know the best position to hit them. But as soon as you have found the way to reach this perfect positioning, this is pretty easy and automatic in my opinion. You can even hit short accels on the run, or short accel from inside out.

2) Via keyboard at least, it's possible to run very fast on court and deploy awesome defense. Some guys are pure defenders on the tour and win matches whereas their opponents paint the lines. Even with Berdych, you can defend well whereas he's one of the less fast character.

3) About the fact you struggle to anticipate the landing zone of the ball when it's deep, which makes you faults.
In my opinion, this is something that raises no issue, and which is even a great thing.
Because :
- it brings UE to the stats sheet and then contributes to make them more realistic.
- when you reach a certain level, this is definitely not a problem anymore. Top players manage to anticipate these shots without doing faults with several steps back.
- with such a "feature", the game is harder : you have to always anticipate a deep counter from your opponent who is defense for instance.
- it's a good thing because mastering this aspect of the game seperate the good players from the average players.
- it also helps the defenders to be more effective, because it makes people doing faults, so it creates more diversity in styles.

Conclusion : all these points you mentionned, you currently point them because you did not mastered them yet. If they were not in the game, matches would be even less realistic, even less varied.

Another thing is that the skill gap would be reached far more quickly. Today, even when you're in top5, there is room to improve your level in the game. I'm playing the ITST tour since beginning (so 1 year and a half) and I still think I can ameliorate some things in my game, tactically or technically (and I'm globally top10 since 8 months).

So here's my advice : keep practicing and you'll see that, as soon as you have mastered these aspects you will appreciate a lot the game. Playing with 100% stats as on managames forum, previews/helpers "on" etc, it's a pure nonsense. It's not tennis, it's like playing an action game... Guys run like rabbits, making rare UE, you have plenty of colors on the court, you can target a zone as in a war video games, it's ridiculous.

hey, san diego!

I must agree with C4ill. What you are calling shortcomings of the game is actually the depth of the game. TE has great depth, takes alot of practice to improve. Just persevere and you will see the beauty of TE.
