Yeah dude it's safe.
Credit cards these days have multiple security layers so you should be all right.
Even we say that hypothetically your card number was stolen, you can still just tell your bank to ban transactions and boom, everything is ok.
If you're so paranoid, get some prepaid debit card. You'll move the money to that card and then spend it. With debit cards you only spend what you have on card so negative balance is out of question
