mod 1.16

Postby SteyololBANNED » Sat, 22 Mar 2014 22:50

Dont get me wrong, I think the work that was put into this mod deserves nothing but praise.

I do have some concerns tho, since when I last played this game we were at mod 1.15.

I am sorry to say that some of the players stats, are.. how do I say this kindly.

A bit off.

For example take Roger, who I use in game. His speed is a very bad.. 69. Not even true
to the slightest of real life.

His backhand seems worse now, which wasnt even that good in-game anyway. He just doesnt feel like
Roger to me when I use him anymore.

Also, all players service games are too strong.

You have Richard gasket, with forehand power that matches joker and roger? What?.

You have Nadal with the greatest forehand basically in game? Okay, its good we know. But the best?
Not sure I agree on that.

Anyway, I love it that you added more to the roster, as it makes playing other players fun, and have variety.

Its just the stats are much more off this patch with 1.16 compared to the previous versions.

Thats all.

I'm agree that some character's stats are not very realistic (i.e: granollers has an awful volley and serve in the game and probably this are his best shots in reality... anyway who cares about Marcel :D), but that's not Federer's case. He has great FH, great serve, great volley, and great special skills.

The idea is to make a balanced roster, where you can beat any player using any character and in my opinion they have achieved it pretty good

You can't just stop in front of stats. There are more variables to take account of. First of all, higher power doesn't mean more ball speed, because it strictly depends on spin too. So, I can assure you that Gasquet's FH is much slower than the players you mentioned. In addition, even if you have two players with the same stats, I can assure you that there's much difference, because animations and height directly influence the sweetspot, so the same player, with different anims, can hit at different average speeds. You can't say: "A has better FH than B" if you've not played lots of sets with both A and B, testing out different situations.

I know that serve seems to be a bit OP at the moment, but you must consider that this is pretty realistic, cause in real ATP tennis service plays a fundamental role in determining the winner of the match. It's not that strange a guy ranked 150 ATP loses 7-6 vs Djokovic, for example. I agree on the serve discussion only about precision: it's too easy to put serves (especially wide ones) on the line. Maybe lowering the precision by 3-4%, even adding more power, would result in a more realistic serve.

However, a critic is not positive if just based on stats and overall impression. It has to be more technical, like "it's too difficult to rush to the net without seing a ball coming right on your feet", or "playing FH to FH rallies, it felt inbalanced when using Gasquet vs Djokovic". These are just examples, not necessarily the truth.

I understand what you are saying inseedious.

I major concern for me when playing roger federer in mod 1.16 is that
I feel too slow now. I find it hard once in rallies to keep up with the speed
that the game is at currently.

Previously I could hold my own, on D. But not so much now.

I played against richard gasket, on miami hard-court. And I am not being funny, but he could hit forehands with the same power shot as I could with roger. Not to mention if I played to his backhand, that is his strength which I agree is fine.

The problem with all service games being slightly OP. Is if you take NADAL for example.
His service game used to be a weakness in
previous mods, so you had a chance if you could break serve. He now has a very good serve game on-top of his other high stats making him slightly too strong. But I am not too upset with this, as I know he very good in real life.

I only think a few tweaks are needed.

I can compile a list of things that I feel need addressing if it would be help.

Inseedious has perfectly summed up all the subtleties of the ITST mod. Just to add something, the increase of service effectiveness has also been done to give more security on services games because there were too many breaks before, especially between top players and beginners in comparaison to reality. It was frustrating for beginners.

The goal is not to match 100% the reality (otherwise, everybody would play with Djokovic/Nadal/Fed), it's to provide a rich, varied and balanced roster with very various tactical options, to create an infinity of matchups which always require a specific gameplan.

About Fed, he represents the fed of 2013 I think, maybe not the good one of 2014 ;)
I think Elias said his original FH animation will come back on 1.17, which will help him to become more lethal.

About Nadal's real abilities, when he's at 100%, the spin he produces with his FH is so huge + deep / regular + the fact he always goes inside out = best FH of the world in my opinion in terms of efficiency.
Now on the ITST roster, his BH is such a weakness that it's totally balanced (at least on hard court).

All in all, the figures show the 1.16 choices are a true success : the 2 last M1000 beat the record of suscriptions, the AO was also very popular and the challengers tour is also growing a lot too.

Thanks c4ill for that reply.

Agreed completely with the fed of 2013 over this current fed seems to be in 1.16.
Hopefully in 1.17 fed will be slightly quicker footwork with his previous FH and I will be a very happy chappy.

One thing to note, and I am not sure who to mention this too is, but the slice of federer animation.
His FH and backhand as well as serve are top notch plus volleys, I love all players anims. Its just the slice, thats
slightly off from rogers real slice as his left arm comes backwards behind him, while his right hand
is slicing the racket down the back of ball.

Anyway great job, and thanks for all the hardwork you guys put into these patches and such.

You know what would happen if Federer stats are way better than other players? We would have federer vs federer. All day long... This is the best system that i ever saw in online games. All players are amazingly well balanced so a lot of players are using different characters, not only federer, nadal, and djokovic like in other online tennis games.

wut? I didnt say I wanted federer stats to be better than all other players son.

His stats are just last year fed with his injury back problem. They don't represent fit fed of this year.

Also if this is the best you saw itst mod, sorry but you didn't play previous versions then.

This version is very heavy on serve but, if you enjoy it I am glad. I find it too much of a serve fest,
where almost all game I am playing, go to a tie break, hardly any rallies, just big serves, aces, and maybe the
odd lucky break here and there.

Yeah, i agree on the serve thing. But the serve is one of the most important thing in real life tennis. Ok, it could be reduced a bit, absolutely... And you are right, i didnt play previous versions of itst.

I am just delighted with the game in which Ivan Dodig can beat Rafa Nadal cause of the great work on players stats. Ok, maybe its not so real, but its very fun to play with your favourite character and still have a chance against players that are way better in real life.

Serve can't be nerfed atm. We are getting used to it, and there are already some matchups showing a 50% return points won. If we lower even by 1-2% serve stats, there would be again a break fest. Honestly, between break fest and slightly easier service games, I prefer the latter. As I said, MAYBE a little nerf in serve precision, even adding more power, would result in more realistic serves (not necessarily more balanced), because there are some players, even with medium-low serve stats, who can constantly serve on lines.
