GRAND SLAM TENNIS 2 is seriously amazing online! Please read

Postby AndyMurray ITST » Sun, 12 Feb 2012 13:54

hi
I know there are lots of sceptics on this site, but Ive been playing GST2 all day and it is incredibly good online. I know we are loyal Top spin fans, and Top spin 4 is a fantastic but overall GST2 is a better more full, and balanced online experience.

Ok I admit that Topspin 4 is more refined in a animations, and realism etc, but it is also missing a spark and I feel like it misses that weight of shot that you can feel from GST2.

Here are the reasons I think GST2 is better:-

1. Balanced gameplay, players cannot abuse creation tool
2. Weight of shot behind each hit
3. Exciting atmosphere
4. Gameface creation tool for characters
5. download and upload other gamers characters is amazing
6. Much better online, with in depth rankings for singles doubles, tournaments and Davis Cup

7. Playing real classic matches( theere are 25 different classic real life matches to replay and re-write history. This is the best thing and a great idea, and almost feels as long as a career
8. Player grunts and crowd are great
9. Graphics are great
10. commentary
11. All Grand Slams are here, Ausopen, French, Wimbledon and U.S

Here are the things Top Spin 4 does better:-

1. Player animations, more refined movement
2. More realistic ball physics, and movement of players
3. career is much longer and more in depth
4. Number of different courts

Please give Gst2 a chance. The career is not great but you dont really need it, you can just create a number of characters and go straight online as there are so many online modes to play, you dont miss the career at all. People on here are too quick to dismiss new tennis games, and I think its a shame as this could be great as an ITST Tour. :D

yeah i cant stop playing. . Its the first time i've been this addicted since Top spin 1
Its bizarre because watching gameplay videos and playing the proper is completely different. Its way better than the demo suggests too.

Hi!

Does somebody here noticed it's impossible to create an on-line match with differents options? 3 sets and 3 games are fixed everywhere! You can't choose, for exemple, 5 sets and 6 games per sets, and with or without tie-break in the last set! Or in wich court you want to play...
Good luck with the itst tour in this case!

...so there is no way to create an online match best of 3-5 sets with 6 games each? :?

Can some one confirm this please?

Yes, I can confirm it. I have looked into every online mode, but the options on sets and games are fixed. That is truly inexplicable, even the old GST on Wii had that!

There is also no 4 consoles online double.

You are joking, right? Weight of shot is exactly the one thing that I would point out the game is seriously lacking. Power,slice,topspin...they all float along at the same pace, and the lack of proper animation for the slice shot is shocking.
The one and only camera angle is a pain and can be hard to judge the flight of the ball, especially on a surface like grass. It is just baffling that they didn't include any other camera angles to choose from.

There's a little delay when your opponent is about to make a return (right before they make contact with the ball) so it messes up your anticipation.

Inconsistent online controls which is killing the game. Holding down the button for a power shot will sometimes result in a moonball for example.

The serve has a mind of its own. The game tells you in the tutorial that holding down a button will power up the serve and you release it at the height of the arc to get maximum power....well my arc doesn't rise at all in online play :? It works fine offline but online it is a mess, almost like two different games

I also don't see any difference between the supposed playing styles. Everyone just net rushes anyway or goes for big serve and easy overpowered volley put away.

I will say though that the game has some nice features offline like the share a pro, the chance to play in classic matches from the past, and the ability to use share a pro players in the career mode which is a great touch and something that I hope Topspin will do in the future.
The character models look pretty realistic too. It wouldn't be so bad if online play wasn't a total mess to be honest.
And the lack of doubles for 4 consoles is very disappointing.
I might persist with it for a while yet and see if it grows on me but right now all it has done has made me thirst for some TS4 action!
