The game definitely needs a patch. It's got potential, but they need to patch certain things to make it work. It's not unplayable at the moment like many here seems to believe, but there are some annoying things that should be fixed.
My best suggestion to a quick and tiny patch would be:
Options to match length (6 games, 3 or 5 sets), and options to controls (Either only TRC and Move or any controls).
I believe that the options to control mode can lift the game to a new level.
If you were forced to use the TRC, matches would become much more interesting because sometimes you don't get that flick of the stick you want and your shot quality decreases(which opens an opportunity for your opponent and vice versa). Also I think all shots seems to behave slightly different using the TRC vs buttons. For instance, flat serves are way faster with button serve than stick serve, but I think spin serves are more accurate with stick than buttons. However, the biggest difference is really the preparation speed imo. You get better shot in shorter time using buttons than TRC, though you might get slightly better angles and slightly better shots with TRC,
if you are given enough time to prep and execute them perfectly. Problem is that you most of the time have to position yourself perfectly and perfectly anticipate were your opponent is going to place his shot, in order to get that amount of time needed to perform a perfect(really perfect) TRC shot. Therefore, obviously, most people will go for the button controls, because they are so much easier to use and in many cases more effective. Just like fifa, where the majority of players have probably never tried all settings on manual, which imo, lifts the football experience to a whole different level than using Assisted controls in Fifa12. It's best described that the players chase the ball, instead of the ball chasing the players on the pitch.
In Fifa, you can choose what control type the game you're hosting is locked to. Either "Any", or "Manual" control settings. Which could be adapted to GST2 with "Any controls", "TRC", "Move" or "TRC and Move".
I know it won't be such a huge difference in GST2 like in Fifa, but I think that it would be a much better experience to play TRC against TRC, with no button shots available. It seems to me that the button shots were really thrown into the game to help the very casual "arcade" players, but failed.
Don't know if this makes any sense at all to anyone here, so please ask questions if you wonder what I'm talking about.
Also, I want to make one thing crystal clear to people. My opinion about GST2 vs TS4 is that they aren't really comparable. They are very different representations of tennis.
My problem with TS4 is that I'm just very tired of the game really. It doesn't give me any thrills anymore. There's no surprises, slow gameplay and no "spectacular" points. Also, there are so much small annoying things with the movement, and volleying that have made me loose my patience with the game. You can try the same movements in TS4 multiple times, though you might only get it right 5 out of 10 times. There's just so many weird programming flaws and "bugs", which ultimately doesn't allow me to play how I want to play. Of course, it needs to be said that when everything works perfectly in TS4, there is no tennis game up to date that can recreate tennis like TS4 can.
Hope someone here can add me on PS3 and we can have a few matches using only TRC or Move to test out my theory more. I think the game is more balanced than it seems when not using buttons. Might be just me though, but I don't think so
