Disappointing!
The graphics are not that superior to Top Spin 4.
Animations are unrealistic and unnatural.
way too fast...
If the game is simillat to the demo, would be waste of money to buy it
just played as Djokovic against Nadal and Nadal rushed at net almost everytime, the guy is a baseline player EA.

The presentation is brilliant,it sets a whole new standard that 2K and the top spin series should look up to and learn from.

Everything else though is a disaster. From everything all you guys mentioned before the most important is the speed compared to the court size.No matter what, even if the animations etc was perfect the game would still be toyish because it feels like you can cover every inch of the court with just a run stick turn. The player movement-court size analogy is horribly, horribly wrong.

Agreed with everything for once. The animations are so bad, and the movement is so choppy/arcadey.

I wish you could change camera views. Is there really only one camera? Also in the full version? Will every game have the Johnny Mac commentary or are there more persons, maybe also in local languages? Finally, does anyone know how many courts will be in the final game? I think I will buy this game.

There will be just the 4 gran slam courts + 2 other fake courts unfortunately...
It's the biggest mistake of the game :/

Source for this? If you go to practise mode you practice on the 'shanghai championship' court so that's another one

One of the poor tennis gmes.

Graphics r okay but commentry is over dun and ball physics R way off. Really poor considering thy hv been developing it for quite a whl now.

This is worse than virtua tennis
For my dowry all I wanted was an iPad but got a wife.

Where's the source for this? I.e 4 console doubles?

Can't remember where i read it but they said 4 console doubles would be a target. whether they will deliver im not sure, but virtua tennis could.

On the topic of courts, some of the challenges are 'win a match at wimbledon court no 3, win a match at french open court 15, win a semi final at EA sports shanghai, and win a match at Ea sports Geneva'. So this could be some of the few.

BTW sampras has a rating of 82 and a 'net game' of 100, jeez he will be near-unbeatable.

Ratings i picked up from the vid:-

Maria Sharapova: Offensive Baseliner - Rating 72
Power: 83
Speed: 58
Net Play 57

Andy Murray: All Court (?!?!?) - Rating 79
Power
Speed Too fast to see, but looked 81-80-80
Net Play

Andy Roddick: Offensive Baseliner - Rating 76
Power: 87
Speed: 66
Net Play: 62

JW Tsonga: All Court - Rating 76
Power: 78
Speed: 76
Net Play: 75

Bjorn Borg: Defensive Baseliner - rating 79
Power: 73
Speed: 88
Net play: 70

Justine Henin: All Court - Rating 70
Power: 71
Speed: 67
Net Play: 70

Boris Becker: Serve and Volley - Rating 78
Power: 62
Speed: 80
Net Play: 90

Lleyron Hewitt: Defensive Baseliner - Rating 77
Power: 70
Speed: 95
Net Play: 60

Linsdsay Davenport: Offensive Baseliner - Rating 71
Power: 82
Speed: 54
Net Play: 71

Michael Stich: All Court - Rating 74
Power: 75
Speed: 70
Net Play 75

Pat Cash: Serve and Volley - Rating 72

Net Play: 80

Novak Djokovic: All Court - Rating 84
Power: 88
Speed: 82
Net Play: 85

Pete Sampras: Serve and Volley - Rating 82
Power: 70
Speed: 85
Net Play: 100

Stefan Edberg: Serve and Volley - Rating 500 (75)
Power: 100 (60)
Speed: 100 (76)
Net Play: 1000 (85)

Navratilova: - Serve and Volley - Rating 69 (lol)
Power 56
Speed 71
Net Play 77

Mcenroe: Serve and Volley - rating 79

What does everyone think?

Well when the lineup was announced and Chris Evert and Martina were among the legends, I was sold. Then to play the demo and Nadal pulled his shorts from his backside, I giggled and pre-ordered this title right away. Of course we as ITSTers expect a lot more because by nature we're tennis FREAKS  Despite the critcisms mentioned in earlier posts (which I agree with most) I think the creators did a good job. Multiplayer four console doubles, more realistic rallies and ball speed, graphics are superb, John Mc is my all-time fav commentator for the sport and the AI included in the game.

Now I watched a clip for GS2 and one of the creators mentioned that the computer senses the weakness of his/her opponent and play accordingly. For example, if you serve out wide for every point, the computer will adjust to return the serve. I think this may be the reason why Nadal and Djokovic come to net so much in the demo. Most shots you CANNOT pass them at net for the winner. I played with Djokovic and was up 2-0. Nadal began serving and volleying because I was killing him during baseline exchanges, but his backhand got weaker so I began playing more into his backhand forcing him to hit more errors. I think this game is smarter and more advance than we give it credit for. Just give it a little more time and I see it becoming the best thing to happen to ITST. Come on DOUBLES!!! Hopefully a Fed Cup won’t be too far away!

EA what have you done???

Postby lethal_weapon_ii » Sun, 15 Jan 2012 10:55

The last weeks i can't see TS 4 any longer. It's the best tennis game i know, but the connection isues and the sucking top spin server ripped apart any fun by playing this game.... (esp. at World Tour)

Then I read about Grand Slam Tennis 2. I checked the demo at wednesday..

EA what have you done?

Bad
Awful Graphics and player animations

It doesn't matter if you hit flat, topspin or slice, the player animation is still every time the same... But stop, the ball changes color.... lol
the players movements looks unrealistic and funny... and not like
tennis.

Bad arcade gameplay
I wonder why they used the good or bad shot ai...
I can't see changes if you hit good or bad shots. Unforced errors in reallys are nearly impossible...
Baseline players like nadal (when vs CPU) played every second point serve & volley

Good:
The surface wimbledon looks ok, Idea with Comentator MC Enroe
is interesting...., and the assortment of some classic players (Stich, NC Enroe, Cash, Everts etc....

My final:
By the way, ts 4 is not perfect but 1000 x better then Grand Slam Tennis 2. GS 2 i won't buy, and I won't play it, if I was given it as a present, cause this game is a waste of time.
