Semi-Retirement

Postby tigerofintegrity » Fri, 03 Jun 2011 23:36

As some of you will know, I've recently returned to Ireland. As only Likos will know, I'm returning to work starting tomorrow.

I really enjoy TS4 and love the competition I get here. I feel like I'm only getting better with this game and would have looked forward to locking horns with the rest of the top guys on here on a regular basis. But unfortunately I have to prioritise my life. I'm going to be working 6 days a week from now on to save up as much as I can for my PHD next year.

I won't have nearly as much time to play ITST matches anymore and my job hours are evening times, when everyone else is free to play. Giving the tournaments lots of no match results would not be good for them and unfair on my opponents. I'm sure many of my opponents would not be too keen on waking up early just to play a match and it's not really something I want to be doing regularly either.

On top of that, I would no longer be able to invest any time in other great games. That's not something I want to give up on.

I'm not sure to what extent my retirement would be, I'll have to see how things go with time. It might mean fewer tournaments for me or it might be complete withdrawal from the tour. One thing is certain, I will no longer be able to cope with the matchload that I have now.

Even if I don't play another match, I'll probably keep an eye out on the boards here and may be semi-active. Guess I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I'll let you all know what my decisions are going to be when I know them myself.

ok im finally ready to come back to ITST but i guess my retirement will be more like yours Tiger and i hope to meet you in my first Tournament back Wimbledon.

Just going to enter a tounament or 2 so it doesn't take up to much of my time.

Good choice. You can still be very competitive, like Federer. Playing every single week can burn you out.

You weren't the first to 'accuse' me of that. Although bringing it back apparently doesn't mean I can keep it here for long. I mean, it's Ireland. Good weather doesn't like to stick around for very long in this country. I guess it's like migrating birds: it's kind of a stop of destination as they go to warmer countries. :)

Yeah I had already entered a few tournaments before I made the decision so I'm just going to get through those first. I'll probably be skipping all the small tournaments unless I happen to have no other tournaments going on for awhile.

Problem is, I don't really have much time to play it outside of ITST matches anymore now so my level is kind of staying stagnant whilst I notice everyone else improving a lot. I think it won't be long before I can't seriously compete for no. 1 anymore. :(

So after my week's trial period, I have the undesirable task of announcing my full retirement from the tour. With my work schedule, it's just not really viable to play ITST matches anymore. Between scheduling matches, waiting for opponents to show up, having to practice for the tour and keeping up with the constantly changing dynamics of the tour, I find I don't really have enough time to do everything else in life that I want to do.

I may decide to rejoin the tour in the future when I have more time to devote to it but it's very unlikely to be anytime soon. I'll definitely miss the competition but you can't have everything in life. I still enjoy TS4 but it's something I want to play at my own leisure now, whenever I want to and have it fit my schedule, not the other way round. So I'll still see many of you around and I'll be looking to play friendlies with people from time to time.

I'm currently in one more tournament and I will just play out the rest of that before I pull the plug. I'm currently registered in Wimbledon but I'll PM the host about pulling out of that.

Good luck to everyone else on the tour!
