More than one player on itst tour?

Postby Slashrulez » Mon, 28 Mar 2011 19:16

I can't seem to get the rules page to load,
i've tried different web browsers but same problem,
just a grey page, so i'll post my question here.

Is it possible to use different players on the tour
since the game alows up to four players to be created?

let's say i create one big server for hard courts,
one good defender for the clay tournaments and so on
unless you come up against a gamertag you've seen before how can you know what type of player he uses?

I DON'T want this to be allowed but how is it being regulated? aside from fair play of course...

Yes, you can change players whenever you want except during the match, if you start a match with a player, you must finish it with him.

Apart from that you can freely change players during tournaments and the season

That should change... (the tournament part...) It's unrealistic.

I dont think so, I think it helps the tour if you can plan in advance and pick the best possible player to counter your opponent.

so for planning you would ask your next opponent who he's playing with and his stats if he's using a custom?

Then what if he switches up at the last second to a different style?

I could see how it doesn't make a huge difference in terms of statistics because nobody really knows who anybody plays with. All we see is the draws and match results.

It's just weird to me is all...

Ok, that's a bit weird I think.. But since it's alowed i guess it's not an issue on itst ( this will be my first season)

but i think for a realistic purpose you should
only be allowed to use one player, thus having to consider
making a more balanced player to have success on different surfaces.

I've read a bit on the forums since joining itst and there is
a lot of focus on realism ( this is great) but competing with
different players totally ruins the realism...

Lots of players have 1 single player they use, like me,I dont usually mix it up seriously, but I know some players do.

It is important to remember, the real competitors here are Humans and not their in game counterparts. As long as it is the same Human playing, the players can change.

For what it is worth, the top 20 in ITST play with the same character all the time. Rarely changing a setup.

What if you suddenly dont like the player you committed to play in the ITST Tour? .... you stuck with him for a season? why?

I think it's the exact opposite. Since you are allowed to
change player you never know which player you are up against and
you make a player selection based on meeting a defensive baseliner
and you instead come up against an serve&volley. How is this good
or realistic for the tour?

If they were to make a tour with only one player allowed ( or make
it a rule in the current tour)
you would know your next opponent, and with the added coach
option in Ts4 you could actually make some significant changes for
your player...

any one think this is a good idea?

You don't have to be, you could of course be allowed to change player during season but then this player doesn't gain any more points, and the new one you choose start from 0 and its up to the gamer to choose wich player/players he wants to use during a season

changing players during tournament is just absurd...

Not for a season Al. For a tournament. I know some other tours that allow you to change your character once every 6 months. I don't want that.

I just thought through the span of a tournament it would be somewhat more realistic to have only one player per human player.

That's a bit much... it's like that on other tours but imo that'll be way too much for anyone to keep track of and then I'd be pissed that I'd be losing my points from the matches I played.

I like the way the ITST has their system set up. If I play a match, I get the points. IF you change your guy during the season you shouldn't have to start from scratch. That goes back to what DJarvik said...it's the humans behind the controller earning the points. (i paraphrased )

@Slashrulez - this absurd is working since Top Spin 1

@JJ_DUBZ_87 - once again YOU are the player. your character is a racket.

Once again, this is not going to change. Remember guys, this site is free, everything is done by volunteers. What you talking about is tremendous amount of work that we simply have no capacity for.

Regardless of what is more realistic, I know for a fact, that top players will use 1 player and 1 player only for extended periods of times (over few month) and in some cases - forever.

So let the ones in lower ranks experiment and find setups that work for them best.

Once again Slashrulez, if you stick around long in ITST, you will see, that what you talk about is really not a problem at all. Most will play with one setup anyway, without the need of us intervening.

I have never seen it be an issue. Like Al said, almost everyone prefers to use the same character all the time, regardless of their opponent/tournament/surface/etc. I think most of us spend hours testing and experimenting with setups - once we find something we play well with and are comfortable with, it's a bit risky to deviate from it. I know I'd never use a new character in an ITST match unless I'm 100% sure it's better than the one I won my last match with.

It is unrealistic to change characters mid tournament, but it happens so rarely that there's no point in a rule against it - and when possible, fewer rules is always a good thing.

Al - since u put it that way... :tu carry on. I rest my case

Rob that's a good point... I haven't seen it either tbh...and I don't do it cuz I like my characters. I second that once you find something you like you'll stick with it.

The coaches help a ton too in terms of tweaking...
