Man, you've got a bad attitude.

I'd prefer more sim, and I'm sure lots of others would too, but this is the game we have, and it's incredibly popular. And to say there's no skill involved is kind of silly. That would imply that every match is going to come down to luck, but obviously that's not the case.

It's actually not that much different from TS3 - you still have to have good timing and positioning to hit good shots. The only difference is that you don't have as many errors, and instead you just hit a weak shot. With all the 1-2 punch tennis you saw in TS3 (serve/return winner, serve/return error, etc.) it's a nice change.

If you don't like the game, fine. But I don't see what you expect to accomplish by looking for every opportunity to bad mouth it.

Dude, I've played enough and I win the majority of the matches on the 2k thing. I know there is a level of strategy. Basically hit the last winner is the strategy. Have enough patience for a myriad of 20+ rallies. I never expected you of all people to be a an arcade player. How is making the game sim-like going to be the end of sales for topspin? How can you say it is a mixture of arcade and sim if you can't even control your own shots(ie. can't hit the ball out ever) Fine if people want to play this. Clearly I'm in the minority when it comes to arcade haters. I thought ITST was above this. Does anyone ever even feel like they truly won a match when they win? I won every match I played last night and I still felt like a loser. Whatever. Listen, thanks for the guidance you've given me over the years as I've learned to really take what you say seriously. I'm having a really hard time with your current stance but so be it. SMDH.

My stance is to "accept" what we got and move on. Alternative would be to "reject" what we got and to what you do.

We not that different in our views, not at all! ...but we are different in that I found a way to enjoy what we"got". ;)

TS3 is a good sim game, but isn't perfect, the MS tour was totally arcade, there wasn't any strategy in this tour, just risk with red and orange stats, the sim tour was really funny but wasn't at all real tennis.

Wow some people have a really, really hard time coping with change.

I mostly agree with Djarvik and Rob. Obviously it's taken a bit more of an arcadey route in this latest installment but that doesn't make it instantly a bad game. You can tell there's a lot of effort put into this game and the basic game mechanics are really solid. I mean there are a few balancing issues in the game but that happens with most competitive games. There's usually a skew towards certain characters/builds. And you do need skill to get this game right. Not necessarily less skill either but just a different kind of skill. It's not the perfect game but it's a damn good one. You're just living too much in the past. You need to evolve like Djarvik and Rob have. :)

Plus it could be worse. It could be Virtua Tennis.

And I agree that I'm impressed with 2K listening to all of us whine about this and that and trying their best to make the right changes to please everyone. Believe me, whatever they do, some people will be happy and some won't so it's not an easy situation for them. Kudos to them and hope they keep supporting this nice game!

Name one single aspect that is not like virtua tennis. Oh, and I refuse to devolve to liking TS4 in it's current state. It's not even fun like even a little. It is like no fun at all.

I think this is starting to go a little off topic. I was a bit surprised to look back to learn that this was actually a player recruitment thread...

Anyway, just to answer your question willjones, it plays very different and much better. Normally I'm a sucker for tennis games but I found the latest Virtua Tennis hard to stomach when I was trying to take it seriously. When you get to the latter stages of the game, it boils down to whoever can hit harder first wins. Now if you've played much of Top Spin 4, especially against good opponents, you'll know this is not true. You're not going to get anywhere if you just try to rip every shot.

There are plenty of other things too. Both are distinctly different just like how FIFA and Pro Evo are both football games but clearly different. I mean, when is the last time in TS4 you saw people diving all over a hard court multiple times in a point to reach an out-of-reach shot and the ball sails up really high like a lob to the opponent?
