Yes, I wasn't say a different thing from you, I was trying to say WHY they are in trouble here.
Cheesy is the word you like to use to explain that.
But I played a lot (and I mean more than 4000) matches in WT, some of the greatest players there don't use lobs during the rallies, don't serve from tramlines, don't abuse dropshots, don't do anything you consider "cheesy".
And still they play great.
But yes, some of them use Samala, Welch or 100 power (but I also know about fantastic players with Dipesa, Chesire, Neuwirth and Rabari as coaches). So you would say they win because of this? No, they win cause they're damn good using that kind of players.
I faced people with these coaches that were RIDICOLOUS, untalented, unbelievably easy to defeat.
So I come to this, during my experience in WT: it's not really about a matter of defense, offense, one coach, other one, it's all about personal confidence.
If I'm confident with offensive player, I'm gonna use an offensive player, if I'm good at defense, I'll be defensive.
And you can play extraordinary matches with this players without all that "cheesy" tactics you always talk about.
Every time I faced a WT great player I said "Well played" after the match, and my opponent said the same.
So I have to say, even if I think you still have not a clear and specific idea of what cheesy is, I agree with the limitations you imposed. No problem, I was not used to use them nor in WT.
But I think coaches limitation is not so much useful in order to see "who can play better".
Top Spin 4 allows you to create a player with 0-0-20 or 20-0-0, allows you to get Samala or Welch as coach, so it's all about who can take more advantage of this, in my opinion.
With that said, I still want to try to play in ITST and enjoy it. I think I can improve my game anyway, so why not?
But I don't think your idea of this game is "better".
