@jaylove.. I know that there are no such things as control shots in real life.. I just said that angles that we get using control shots in topspin 4 are not possible in real life.. So same angles we get using control shots and same angles we get using r1 button.. So it's fair and square in my opinion

Timing remains the same for every shot whether you use r1 button or not..

Two really big differences:

1. Control shots are something that is intended by the developers of the game. RB shots are meant to be used as an approach shot, not as a way to increase the effectiveness of a shot, and then run back to the baseline.

2. RB adds angle and power to your shot. Control shots only add precision.

Well what if we use it while attacking? I understand using on every ball is pathetic.. But how about when I m attacking I might use it to get more power or angle.. Or when moving towards the net after attacking the ball

I don't think anyone has a problem if someone uses it to actually approach the net.

This button was the reason I stopped playing TS4. I hate it even more than PJQ.

I_Zooloo_I wrote:well no, i enjoy the game for both gameplay, graphics, and animations quality. and when i see these rb animations all the time i'm not having a good match.

and in my mind, when ppl get to play in a way that clearly goes the opposite to what the devs intended, or to what a tennis simulation should look like it means they just want to win and don't care much about the rest.

besides that it s your right to use it if you like it but it s also my right to express my opinion, and my opinion is players who hold r1 or rb too much look stupid on the court.

That is only half the truth. R1 does an automatic sweetspoting of your position when hitting the ball. I guess when you are in perfect position your timing window for a perfect hit is larger then when you are "only" in good position...

For me, R1 should only work at serve as S&V modifier. All other net approaches should be possible to perform without hitting an extra button.

rb button

Postby seppderooij » Thu, 20 Oct 2011 13:36

you can make everything cheesy when you want, but the problem is that it doesn´t make the game better at all. When you may not play shots with the rb button i stop playing topspin 4 because people are too much complaining about everything. there is a disadvantage when you play shots with rb an walk back to the baseline: you need more time to reposition Let´s play! come on guys!

There is an easy counter for this - slice.
A slow slice shot will cause an rb attacking shot to go long most of the time I find.
Actually, I would say you are more at risk of making an error off an rb attacking shot than a standard shot.
I have more issue with rb being a sort of "speed booster" which was present in ts3 too. It's stupid to see someone suddenly "boost" across the court to a ball. That is Mario Tennis.

You base your game on holding RB to do fake approach shots..

It's a joke that this isn't classified as cheesy on ITST, some WT tactic IMO.

Firstly, I didn't understand your message. Now i've seen the results of the recent days, I understand it more.
You have just lost against ILuvBillVal, so off course, you can't control yourself, and come here to whine...

You should accept defeat better. How old are you ?

Nice answer I admit :p

Anyway lobs are more cheated than the RB things and I don't write on a dead topic to whine as he did ;)

When do you come back on the tour anyway ? Are you secretly suspended ? :p

I answered to your message here because I feel it's not fair to whine about ILove just because you lost against him, that's all.

When you beat him by the past, you never complained about him, and now you loose, you come...

I don't think he begins his rb thing just during your last game and even if it would be the case, I don't think you can win a game just because you use such a superficial thing.

With that mentality you contribute to the bad atmosphere around actually.
Be more nice, more fairplay, write reports of your games, propose new ideas, try to be positive, stop always critizing useless things... It would be a nice evolution for the whole community !
