Using the rb button

Postby wdob1985 » Wed, 19 Oct 2011 18:09

Hey just played a guy that sent me a message after losing
The first set on a tie break saying that I can't use drop shots(which I only used one in the first set)and that I can't use the rb button to hit a shot.

Is using the rb button with a shot cheesy?

there is no rule or cheese statement about using rb in itst.

in my opinion, using it to attack the net is fine. but ppl who use it to make theyr shots better then walk back in some fake approach shot tactic get an unfair advantage and make the game look like virtua tennis which is pretty sad

Agreed on that one. Or the guys that use it to do a quick serve, then don't follow through to the net that's also pretty lame.

Doesn't matter if you hold rb button.. It is only to reposition your player and to make your player run faster.. There is no other special advantage using rb button.. Angles and power in the shots remain the same whether you hold the rb button or not.. There is nothing cheesy about it.. And there is also a disadvantage by holding rb button that you get wrong footed if you hold it early and move in the wrong direction.. So everything remains balance if you keep holding rb button or not..

I will add that trying to make myself catch up to shots at times using RB has sometimes caused my player to achieve some undesirable, and frankly quite retarded results.

There are some more cheesy things that needs to be addressed rather than just holding rb button to reposition yourself.. Thats why this button was added just to reposition yourself.. This was also in topspin 3..soo nothing cheesy about it

no, i dont think so, i see many players use the rb shot on some very easy balls in the middle of the court where there is no need for a fast reposition at all.

and after testing it a bit myself im pretty sure it helps on getting some better shots. but i agree it can be a handicap when it gets you moving forward inside the court and you dont want to.

but anyway the main issue with it is not if it gives an advantage or not, the problem is it makes the player who uses it look like ... i dont know what it looks like... but defo not a tennis player.

Well you don't have to see how your opponent looks like when he holds rb button(he jumps a bit and moves forward)... you just have to keep your eye on the ball.. That's what matters

well no, i enjoy the game for both gameplay, graphics, and animations quality. and when i see these rb animations all the time i'm not having a good match.

and in my mind, when ppl get to play in a way that clearly goes the opposite to what the devs intended, or to what a tennis simulation should look like it means they just want to win and don't care much about the rest.

besides that it s your right to use it if you like it but it s also my right to express my opinion, and my opinion is players who hold r1 or rb too much look stupid on the court.

Well you see federer sometimes try to moves forward but then suddenly sometimes comes back... So it's nothing unreal.. I don't find anything unreal in animation or graphics by holding rb or r1 button.. Just your player moves a bit forward but if you are a baseline player then you have to stop holding it after you hit the ball to avoid moving at the net.. In that way there are soo many things that are not as much as perfect animated In topspin 4 as in real life.. There is no such thing that people who keep holding rb button just want to win ..

Thanks for the replys

Just to say that I do use it when I'm going forward to towards the net and that I'm not aware of anyone complaining about the rb button except for my last opponent

Personally, RB kills the game more then anything. As soon I see the guy use it on every shot - I just want to stop playing....

Zooloo is spot on. It does help with angle and power on hyour shots, no doubt. And yes, if used wrong "may" cause your player to be wrong footed.

There is no need for RB button for repositioning if you ask me, it should have not been in the game in first place, all it had to do was make your guy run to the net, all the way, without posibility of backing up...and if yhou choose to back up after pressing it, it should panish you severily on your movment, recovery and speed....as it stands - it does the opposite, letting you recover faster. Total crap.

Well I only use it when I see the ball is far away from me so I can rush at it quickly or when the ball is short to attack your opponent..

Do you know if it was intended to make the players run faster or not? If that was the intention I don't see why they just didn't leave the run separate because it seems to cause a lot of clutter using the same button. Yeah I agree though the game would be a lot cooler without it.

Personally I also find the inside out button a bit clunky. I know a lot of guys do it fine and can do it at will, but the way it comes together and the beginning of the animation always feels forced to me and quite difficult to put together.
