Just had an absolute corker with Retos1. This is the first time I have ever played him and it did not disappoint.
I know he was the champion (legend) in TS2 and a champion in TS3 so despite my own history of success I was a bit nervous about the match to say the least.
Retos1 had created a new character and we agreed to go at it SIM style, i.e no big power or Monster / Defence or Topspin Invasion.
Baghdad OrgaSIM vs Retos1 6-7, 7-6, 3-6
The match lasted 1 hour 25 minutes
Baghdad: 70, 73, 72, 50, 70, 70, 65, 70 - serve counter / shot counter
Retos: 86, 67, 66, 39, 72, 93, 75, 52 - reach swing / highly flammable
The first set Retos broke me in the first game of the match but after working my little Iraqi bottom off I managed to break back. It went to the tie break and Retos bullied me to take the opening set. 6-7 (3-7)
The second set the heat was turning up, we both created ample opportunities to break and thus break point opportunities. I was the first to take the break which put me at 5-4 and serving for the second set. Retos1 had others ideas for sure and after some blistering groundstrokes he had me at 30-40 and slammed one down the line to break back

It went to the breaker and I was 3-0 with a mini break then he got it back to 4-3 with a mini break, I was well and truly gutted! However with my fighting spirit and solid defense I was able to mini break back and took the set to take it to a third. 7-6 (8-6)
In the third there was nothing separating us, at 3-3 it looked all set to go to another breaker but then out of nowhere he crushed my service game to love. He then steam rolled through his service game and then in the final game I tried to turn it around but it was not to be

I am tad disappointed to go out in the first round of this masters tournament, but as it is early days and with no rankings the draw is what it is. I picked the toughed first round match ever but I 100% enjoyed it. It was worthy of a final - so wish I had it recorded.
On paper his setup seemed slightly stronger with a big wing (86) and very high stamina (93) and good speed (75) so I was impressed I managed to stay with him all match. I think those made the difference in the key points tonight.
Retos1 is a great player and a good sport too. I wish him all the best...and like I said, this is only "Part 1"

Baggy
P.s. I wanted this to be a separate thread just to highlight how close and intense this game can be if you play an opponent that is on your level and both with nice setups. But I guess you already knew that eh
