How to play Defensive?

When i will create a powerless, quick defensive Player, what is the Best Setup and the Tactic to win games? (also whitout ITST Rules (MD etc))

Because only play every Ball back, is not possible. The powershots are to strong and it´s very hard to win a ralley.

Or is Defensive Playing not competitive?
