S&V: Monster Defense or Smell of Blood?

Postby Daxter1975 » Fri, 19 Oct 2012 11:54

My Question for all Baseliners:

When you play against S&V Players, what is harder to Beat:
Golakov with Monster Defense / Volley Artist
or
Kelly with Smell of Blood / Volley Artist?

And why???

Or an other Coach/Setup?

I did never pay attention to this difference, speaking sincerely.
Basically for 2 reasons.

First of all, there are a few S&V players in TS4. World Tour, online matches or something else.
And then, I use the same tactic when I face a volley player. I stay on the baseline right on return (cause these players may have great skilled serve, but not so much power, so they must use slice and kick mainly), try to use short slices or short top spin shots on return. Or even trying to hit a flat winner down the line, but it works better when the service is not sliced or with top spin.
And you must be sure when you hit the ball.

On the contrary, when the opponent is at the net, I try to hit short and slow passing shots, using top spin mainly, expecially with control shots. And lobs, of course.
And I also try to stay inside the court, in order to prevent drop volleys.

I never tought about who was better between those two coaches, cause these tactics always worked for me :)

PS I almost forgot, I use a power player, not a baseline player.

By simply comparing the two skills, Monster Defense should be better because the effect kicks in once (and as long as) you're trailing in a game while Smell of Blood only works on your own game and break points. Now the nest question is, what's the difference between "playing more precise shots and making less errors" and "playing more efficient shots"? TS4 is extremely vague in its game and skill description.

In any case, Golakov is the more flexible coach because he is already unlocked at 15 S&V (I sometimes use a 15-5-0 Golakov on WT) but when you pick a setup that lets you choose between both coaches (e.g. 18-2-0) you can directly compare their stats. According to players here, putting points into your wings also makes your volley shots more efficient.
