Career Character for Very Hard

Postby Zeppelin » Fri, 27 Apr 2012 09:12

Hi there,

currently I'm one tourney short of legende on hard with the following character:

FH 85
BH 67
SRV 75
VOL 44
POW 79
STAM 85
SPD 64
REF 51

Coach Pei Jing Quah

I'm quite happy with the character, except I can't win in Grand Slam semis and finals if I switch to very hard because if my service is good enough it's just returned unreachable which often leaves my deuce in my own service and break points for me are are a very rare occasion (about one each match)

My next carrer I want to start on Very Hard but for that one I definitely need another player.

The things which annoy me most about my player right now are the lack of speed and the too weak forehand and backhand... I still would like to have a better forehand than backhand, but too have more points on each skill. My serve is another point. Either I should use a less strong server with which I should be able to stay in the point and win it over time or to use a really dominant serve (favourite serves are at the moment: straight short out to the right side and slice wide out to the left side)...

Any suggestions for my next character?

Hi there,

your first character is very good in my opinion. Great wings, great service and great power plus enough speed. Pe Jing is a effective coach, too effective - so its forbidden here in our community.
The best way to win GS Finals is to improve your timing. I am sure, that noone at ITST has any problems beating alle the players at the single player mode. You can do that with any gold coach.

The best way to get better is to face up players here at ITST. Sign up for tournaments and you will see what i mean...
Good luck

Ok, than it's me :D

Two more questions: Why do Pei Jing Quah's Stats change sometimes?
Rarely she gave my player +15 FH and BH and normally it's ~ + 8/9 for each. With +15 I definitely agree she's extremely powerful... With the ~ +8/9 she's good, but the stats of some other trainers with +5 for FH and BH seem also quite nice, though it's mostly for defensive characters.
That brings me to my next question:

How is it to play with a defensive character in career?

Before the big patch last year Quah had different stats

+15 FH +15 BH +6 SRV +7 PWR + 7 STA

Now she gives 4-9 points in every category but for some reason you'll still see her old stats in the stats screen when starting a Friendly match against the CPU. But you can actually play the game offline as it was pre-patch. Just disconnect your PS3 from the internet (pull out the ethernet cable so that there won't be any new downloads) before loading the game and you'll see the old stats of trainers like Loureiro, Madr and Rabari incl. ridiculous angles and high running speed in the game itself.

Regardless your 0-12-8 spec with her is still one of the most effective setups in the game. If you have trouble on any difficulty, it's really just you :)

Any setup in career may do but imo the most effective ones tend to be deep power (15+) or deep defensive. S&V is harder to master and all around is the weakest. and
