Monster Defense

Postby Daxter1975 » Mon, 23 Jan 2012 19:51

I know that it is here a sakrileg :-)

But i want to know how Monster Defense work.

When it´s in effect? When you are 1 Point behind?
How long hold the Effect in game or Match?
What happens when it´s in effect?
Can it go in effect when a player never are behind?

as soon as you are 1 point behind in a game your shots become more accurate and powerful (and maybe use less stamina?)

Is it really just one point?

That's even worse than I thought it was.

I always thought that you must have a game or break point against you to make it work. Exactly the opposite of Smell of Blood.

Which is also an inherent (and cheap) trait of any CPU player on Hard+

I agree. One point is just insane and so so cheap. Monster defense is easily a top 3 overpowered skill. And if it's 1point that makes it almost as cheesy as top spin invasion which is unheard of. TSI is easily the most OP/cheesiest skill in the game(At least it used to be last year).

Is TS Invasion better than Instant Rocket?

Pei Jing has both TSI and MD but her stat boosts suck imo. Too many points in categories you don't really need plus her requirements don't suit me.

i think its better than Instant rocket. Top spin cross court shots are the most important in the game IMO. and pei jings stats are like that now because she was the most overpowered coach in the game. She still is overpowered and thats why she is banned from Itst. her skills are the 2 best in the game and if PEI JING didn't add any points to any category she would still be overpowered because of her skills

So there's a clear difference between cheese and "just" high tier. Which skills fall into either category?

Cheese
Monster Defense
Top Spin Invasion

High Tier
Shot Counter
Instant Rocket
Diesel Hard Hitter
Semi-volley King
Longer, Better! (?)

Also how effective is Return Serve Counter?

Yeah I think say if you go behind 0-15, MD kicks in. If you then level, it turns off.

Return serve counter is epic. It's free points.

I haven't figured out what makes it kick in though. I have a character with that skill. He occasionally rips return winners, but 3/4 of the time when I get a perfect flat return it's still just a popped up slow ball.

I played long time with Lopez having this skill.

My impression: it lets you hit sharper returns than normal (if timing is perfect), you can compare it to shot counter which also lets you hit sharper flatshots.

but it doesn't give you free points :D

Gives me free points as I regulary hit winners from it. Maybe it's just because my returns are epic. I was ripping them with lopez vs edlglides jensen.

I like that skill a lot! The only problem, I think that sometimes it fails to trigger when matches are laggy
