Smell of Blood and Highly Flammable

Postby Squilari » Wed, 27 Jul 2011 01:39

I thin these are the worst skills I´ve ever tried.
In fact I think they are useless.
What do you think about it ?

In fact, all the coaches giving these abilities give also good stats (50), well distributed.
Anyway, i think that smell of blood can be useful to catch every chance to break the opponent or, for example, it can be decisive in a tiebreak with no mini-breaks (you're leading 6-5 and the opp's serving, for example)

Disagree with smell of blood, agree with highly flammable. Smell of blood is basically the opposite of monster defense, it really helps you close out games. I use it in my serve and volley setup.

Highly flammable, IMO, is absolutly the most useless skill in the game. If you are evenly matched with your opponent, the chances of activating it is very low. Even if you manage to win enough points, it doesn't make you that much better the way monster defense does.

Wondered if SOB is also if you have breakpoints against you. I played a guy who I had a lot of BP against. And I swear his shots were better then. But probably it was just me ?? :-)

I think that SOB is intended to work during every decisive point, not only game points, otherwise it wouldn't work during tiebreaks or super tiebreaks.
I think that "game point" is generic and includes every game/break/set/match point.
In fact, when someone wins a match, the judge says "game, set and match etc." even if the winner has just won a tiebreak.
I'm not sure if a match point during the super-tiebreak is considered a game point, because we're talking about something more than a tiebreak (the tiebreak is a game, the super tiebreak is a set or an entire match).
But, since there are some tourneys in the career mode during which you just play a single super tiebreak, i think that SOB is intended to work during every game/break/set/match point.
Anyway, the 2k must explain better some abilities, for example serve stick berserker, spin serve master.

P.S. I think that SOB need an improvement, because it's an ability uses in very fews situations, compared with other abilities which affects volleys or groundstrokes. I think SOB must be intended as a good weapon well hidden, instead of just being an excuse to give 50 stats points to a single gold coach.

Highly Flammable? That shit is one of the very best skills in the game when activated!

Example, Roddick has it. One strong service game with some Ace's and easy put-aways and that's immediately 4 in a row. Or breaking the other person means you've at least won 2 points in a row, 2 more on your serve and it starts.

Highly flamable has made my Roddick capable of beating any player in a groundstroke battle. Your fully charged Power Shots suddenly have the angle and sharpness of a perfect Control shot.

Combine that with his Diesel Returner ability and you get someone who can subsequently break and keep Highly Flammable going. As long as you dont lose a point you wont lose HF. And you should never lose a point on serve while in HF.

Highly Flammable is so good because it's like a landslide. Momentum matters in any sport, and Highly Flammable gives you the tools to hold your momentum forever.

You know what I seriously think? A massive portion of these perks etc are geared towards the 'arcade'and casual gametypes such as percentage tennis and the other ones

yeah i gotta agree with you on this one. it's probably one of the most REALISTIC (in terms of real tennis and momentum) of the skills in Top Spin. I feel like there are a lot of unrealistic skills in the game like instant rocket, passing shot sniper, drop shot artist, monster defense, etc.

Agree. If they had skills like this, the game would be much more realistic.

How about the fact that skills are actual attributes of the player holding the control? ;)

As much as I like some of the skills, there is nothing realistic about them. Absolutely nothing as far as I am concerned.

...it would be nice if AI could recognize what exactly you do better then the next guy in the game and automatically generate a skill title for you. Like if you are a good server, or if you time your Forehand better then Backhand etc...

..if 2K let me pick Skills or Two Types of risk, the choice would have been really clear to me, Risk.

They are fun thou, I admit....but personally, none of them "realistic".

sort of like vt does like roddick rocket server or fed -all round. or what smash court tennis 3 did with their concept of investing those yellow balls in certain areas of your game gave you specific skill sets and thus gave you your own style of play.

In VT games though, those 'titles' are just descriptions of what type of player that character is...not some kind of special skill
