Need Help Designing an Offensive Baseliner

Postby Mayowa05 » Wed, 13 Jul 2011 20:25

I just got top spin 4 and i'm looking to create a player to dominate the rallies from the back of the court, possibly finishing off points with a volley here and there. I've tried using the calculator but it seems that my character always ends up really slow or with a really bad volley. Anyone have any ideas for a powerful but balanced baseliner.

As an offensive baseliner is it better to stack the Forehand/Backhand bonuses to just Forehand and try hit the inside out shot or to split it evenly between the two.

Powerful and balanced is tough. You have to sacrifice either or. Like Ameoba said. 0-15-5 with grody 50 volley with V shot artist and then diesel hard hitter. I mean you have to sacrifice speed with this setup but speed isnt THAT important in this game unless you play as a complete ODB and chase down everything. But definitely this setup will allow you to go to the net, even serve and volley sometimes, and give you plenty of power!

Wait so is it best to stack points into forehand, or balance them as an offensive baseliner?

I was thinking of doing that however it leaves me with these stats:

FH 90
BH 60
SER 69
VOL 50
POW 84
STM 76
SPD 54
REF 57

Diesel Hard Hitter, Volley Shot Artist

If I play against good players online will they easily attack my backhand. Do these look like good offensive baseliner stats?

The setup is "Federer like" so it's good, but personally, i would add a little more in voley like 60+

3/9/8 with TI/MD or TI/Poisoned Slices coach. Those are my personal set ups.

You might be laughing at it on paper, with good reason, but in the right hands it is a powerful setup with no weaknesses and more power than an all-rounder.

This setup requires extensive knowledge on countering certain setups otherwise you'll end up not being able to hit many winners!

Oh right, those are my WT coaches - every other coach on this set up is also very powerful. It's kind of an all-rounder setup leaning on certain stats but not stacked at all.

For example:

Matt Grody if you plan to volley and want a good FH.

Ben Fillion for Server/Power/Speed

Tomas Madr for power and reflexes.

if you're concerned about a weak BH and volleys, you can tweak the set up slightly to 1/14/5, giving you this:

84 FH
64 BH
71 serve
53 volley
82 power
74 stamina
54 speed
58 reflex

although you sacrifice a little power, you get better serve and volley stats (esp. with VSA) - should be able to close out service games effectively with this set up, although you'll be slightly weaker on return games

My setup for my OFB was is looking like this so far:

FH 90
BH 60
SER 69
VOL 50
POW 84
STM 76
SPD 54
REF 57

Diesel Hard Hitter, Volley Shot Artist

However I thought this might be a more competitive setup. IT seems its more well rounded for the slight loss of volleying capabilities. It looks like this:

FH 93
BH 59
SER 80
VOL 40
POW 89
STM 83
SPD 52
REF 54

Diesel Hard Hitter, Inside Out Master

What do you guys think is the better OFB. To me it seems like I'm gaining a lot more than I'm losing with the new stats compared to my original plan.
