Cheesy serve tactic

Postby Yard10 » Sat, 28 May 2011 09:52

Hi everyone

I just need to confirm whether serving from the far corners is considered as a cheesy tactic. I played against a player in this tour and he served from the far corners every single time, mixing with slice serve (which is a lot more difficult to return and position yourself back). I believe as any other players would agree, this is completely unrealistic.

I am really disappointed by this tactic. I am new and started to enjoy playing in this tour. But after finding such member to play such tactic, it is really disappointing.

Many thanks

Don't know if it's as cheesy as in ts3, but a problem is that the game automatically moves you outwide.

yup i notice that too. but what if he moves the player himself to the far corners before serving?

even if the game automatically moves you, it wont still be too far and you can still return the serve normally.

but if you read what cheesy tactics are in the rules, serving from the far corners is still considered as one of them.

I think it's corny as hell but I don't think there's any rule against it....honestly guys who do this are leaving one entire side of the court open so it's not really too big a deal

i'm not sure if you guys have come across a REALLY good player who use that cheesy serve. Even the other side of the court is open, the player still can reach the ball even when returning with full power and accuracy.

Why not just ban it because it is CLEARLY not realistic? As simple as that. I have never seen a real life player serve from those far corners.

But because you mention it, there is a clear rule against it in TS3. You can read it here:

I know that I am new here, but I think I can understand what the rules say. I hope it applies to TS4 too.

So, would any of the ITST management please respond to this?

i m agree with you Yard, but why in our matches you served 95% cross court slice on deuce point???do you consider this cheesy??(even if you aren't in the corner)

i think slice serve is there for a reason in this game. all real life players use slice serve as one of their serves. the only thing that differs good players from bad players is that the ability to slice serve balls in close to a line, not by standing at the far corners to create a bigger angle without having to serve balls in close to a line.

You cant get rid of the slice serve (because real life players use it) but you can avoid serving from the far corners in order to create the bigger angle.

So what i am trying to say is in real life, everyone knows that if you serve from the far corners, you wont be able to reach the ball if the opponent return the ball to the open court will full power. So why not just ban it? This is merely my opinion though.

But if everyone agrees that slice serve is also considered as cheesy (which i do not think so), we all should stop doing it then.

lukkystef-i do not slice serve only on deuce point, i mix it with other serves as well. if it happened on deuce point, it is merely a coincidence. so i am not sure how you can be certain that i used it most of the time (95%).

You can do a lot of crazy crap in this game that you can't do in real life, doesn't really make sense to just ban one....let's ban short angle topspin shots while we're at it.

I may not be the greatest player ever but I think I'm pretty decent and I haven't had much problem with people using this 'tactic', and I have ran into a few guys who were very 'good' and efficient with this tactic.

i agree with you jaylove that there is a lot of crazy stuff you can do in this game that you cant do in real life.

after all, its up to the management to decide. I just raise my concern for the betterment of this tour (from my point of view) and want to see what others think. besides, i read the rules about the cheesy tactic and was just wondering if it applies to TS4 too.

i bet i know who this refers to and there is an element of cheese in their game. Some people just cant play tennis well and capitalise on these tactics, each to their own. Its tough, you really have to be in the mood to play this type of match, and hope that your own service games hold up...

yeah , at one side it is little cheesy to serve from tramlines in TS 4- but on the other hand when someone do this ,than one side is totally open for a counter return.

when you ask me personelly its fair to do this ,
i would say ...... NO .

it should be banned, pure and simple. its not SIM. ITST tries to replicate SIM tennis, correct? if someone is good it is nearly impossible to stop the doubles serve in a singles matches. the coverage angle is simply too great and its easy for them to track the return (if you get it).

its not tennis. BAN IT. if you say no to the ban then u must use it yourself...

This is the reason that I just want to play against players of this community. Every time that can get to a custom match, I always face players with cheesy tactics. It´s f...... boring, as I don´t want to do the same stupid things.
