Help for several points I haven't made a game plan for yet

Postby brazegoesmoo » Thu, 12 May 2011 23:45

How do I fight off a S&V type player?

Also how do I serve on the T, the outside corner, or the wide shot :p All this time I never bothered to find out

It's cheap and not a great deal of fun, but the lob will serve you well against SV players

Yeah but honestly lobs are not super hard to deal with if the guy is trying to pass you with nothing but lobs...so you really do have to mix them up. Maybe sacrifice a few points here and there trying to pass him with non-lob shots, so that he will be lulled into thinking you don't feel comfortable trying to lob him

Try to topspin it really short off the serve. This has a good chance of giving you a slower volley to pass him with. It won't work all the time, but it does. After that, its a case of mixing it up with short crosscourt topspin, short flat up the line, deep upe the line topspins(if pulled out wide) and lobs. I would advise against hitting anything deep unless you are pulled outwide. Otherwise just keep it at their feet.

Again, exactly what Vieira said. Get used to pulling straight down on the stick. Mix in maybe 1 deep shot a game, 1 lob a game.

Serves smack on the line cannot be done with the stick, only with buttons. You have to start holding the direction before the ball is thrown, and release the direction just before the ball reaches it's peak. You also can't be afraid to have a lower first serve percentage (50% until you get the hang of it) or you will never figure out the timing because the window is so small, and a little random.

I'm not sure that's true. It's rare, but I do hit the lines. I've found that since the first update, you have wait a split second longer before you start aiming, otherwise it'll go out.

To the original question, one very effective way to beat a volleyer is to mix up the pace of your passing shots. If the person at net thinks you might go for a very hard pass, they almost have to just guess and release very early. If they guess wrong, and the pass is slow, the volley will be weak. And like others said, lob just enough to make them think twice about smothering the net, where any volley can be a winner.

Another good return is a very hard, low, flat shot. If you really connect with it, they won't have enough time to react.

Yesterday I was practicing some serve and volley against the computer and it hit a very hard, low flat shot at my feet (off my kick serve)....I held RB and did an A power volley and I swear it was the hardest volley I've seen myself or anybody else hit yet in the game. It landed in the corner and hit the back wall like .2 seconds after that, I don't know how to describe it but it was the most insanely hard volley I've seen yet.

According to you guys, what's the amount of points needed to have a decent volley ?? I made a few tests but just don't have enough time....I would say above 60 but i'm not sure.... Did some one here made a few tests to help answer this question??

Thx in advance

Depends how you want to play. If SV, in my opinion you need at least 70-75+ and some volley coach abilities. If you just wanna move forward and finish at the net you could probably get away with 50. However, my OFB player only has 39 for volley, but I cache hit perfect drop volleys with him (little too easy I think)
