It's why a guy like Roddick gets burned the majority of the time he comes to the net...it's not that his volley mechanics are totally wrong, it's that he often hits poor, predictable, cross court approach shots that land a few feet past the service line.

Yeah you're right, but at real top levels maybe there's not a distinction between placement and power, because in most cases they are used together.
Lot's of times players like schiavone or federer hit very deep and high approach shots, but in ts4 they wouldn't be control shot but at least powerful top spin shots.

Ture, but I think that it is easily adaptable, just hit control shot approaches?

yea only on grass do they mainly use slice to approach fed and more often than not tsonga slice aproach when they want to chip-charge but the courts are slow so slices can sit up often so that is why they often use topspin however in Montreal, cincy, and new york slice aproaches will work well as those courts bounce low

Does anybody else struggle against strong defensive baseliners?

They run down cross court volleys and most of them have very high stats on both wings, so they can hit pin point passing shots. They are the only play style that give me significant trouble with my S&V.

Also, I usually hit drop volleys when people hit short returns at my feet -- this doesn't work against the DBs because they will run up and hit a return winner half the time.

Yeah -- thought I was going to finally make my first final on the women's tour; this was my 3rd semi. Got smoked 6-2, 6-3 in the semis to a strong DB. Just haven't been able to figure out a good avenue of attack against them (other than hoping they decide to hit high returns that I can put away with a power volley).

Yeah, I always have a strategy against Offensive Baseliners, but these defensive guys always baffle me. No matter what I try, I can't find a way to fight back. I think all of my losses, except for Mikefare, were defensive baseliners.

Defensive baseline players have more chance to break you, but their service game isn't too hard to steal, because they really don't have a good weapon to close easily and quickly their serve game.
Try to use the weakness of your opp's shots or control shots to quickly approach to the net and close the point. Or try to slice a lot, because he probably uses lots of control shots, and they aren't easy to hit after a good powerful slice shot.

P.S. i wanna join this society as a s&v player. I've sent a pm to tombs, but no replies after more than a week. What do i have to do to join your society?
My psn id is ray_237 and i wanna my psn id in the signature.

I used to think I was indecisive... but now I'm not so sure.

Well, he could by photoshopping his own signature, but I actually made them and have the original files for easy personolisation.

However I'll hardly be on ITST anymore for the forseeable future, so if Villa can take over that would be great. Unfortunately he can't edit the opening post.
