Dennie. It is against rules to drop volley excessive

Personally I have a 2 dropvolley limit per set.

I see lots of ppl 2 drop volley per game.

No way. If you tell people they can't drop volley on short net returns, you're basically saying "You have to let me win this point, sorry."

A drop volley is exactly the play you'd make in real life, and it's exactly the play you should make on the game if you are serve and volleying. If you don't want people to hit a drop volley, then don't hit that return every single time.

I'm saying not drop on cross returns. I'm saying it's not the only way 2 win the win.

We have endless matches where you throw the drop volley in and I accept this as it usually happens 2 be right progress the point has taken.

Other people though do it all the time with no respect for the opponent.

Yeah I know -- I'm not saying it's okay to hit drop volleys all the time. I'm not even saying it's okay to hit them on every cross court return. I'm not sure how to describe it, but there is one particular short cross court return where drop volley is literally the ONLY play if you are S&V. If you're not S&V you have other plays, because you can hit a groundstroke. But if you've charged the net off your serve, the game basically forces you to hit a drop volley off that return or else you have no chance in the point.

It's basically just one specific situation that only occurs with one specific return, and only if the player is charging the net off their serve. If someone hit a drop volley 90% of the time off that play, it wouldn't bother me because I know from experience it's the only way to be in the point.

But obviously that's not what we're talking about -- we're talking about just drop volleys in general. And they definitely get abused; I've had people come to the net and hit a cross court drop volley off balls that are shoulder height. Just stupid silly stuff that's completely unrealistic.

Just saw this, and am pleased to see it has evolved into a serious discussion.

But wtf, contact the host (ME, in this case) before posting this kind of slander thread next time.

If your opponent is constantly hitting drop volleys, then try hitting a high topspin shot - the drop volley will sit up a lot more, giving you a good look at a pass.

This is a very tricky subject. Hitting a lot of drop volleys is cheesy, but it's also the only way you really stand a chance against someone who constantly hits the low crosscourt return.

Hitting deep volleys can work against the low returns, but usually not until you have hit a few drop volleys, and your opponent starts to anticipate them and move forward.... of course, if they constantly stay 10 feet behind the baseline, then they are just asking for the drops.

Xesco15, Veux-tu refaire le match de la finale? Je ne prendrais pas un serveur volley. I never used drop volley just short slice volley.

I played a friendly with my sim character and vs the liw short cross return hitting a drop volley will mean you

A. Win the point there or
B. Win on next shot.

Good SnV players can get the short cross back in2 play and pressure without the dropvolley short slice cross.

Also mix up SnV. Fake approach (not cheesy) on serve come in on next point etc..

Make it so your opponent can't read your game.

Throw in a drop lob now and then.

Underhand serve and a fake-smash-drop is a must as well. Mix it up!

This. Before all this wham bam game, tennis was more a game of balance and angles. Net play thrives on these. And its true, that topspin shot is not a good tactic to keep doing. It's lazy returning but gives a decent reward for little effort against inexperienced serve and volleyers... which puts people off trying it and attacking the net in general. I play so many people in player match who treat above the baseline like a minefield, and if you do drag them in they have not a single clue about net play.

Underhand serve didn't work out for Mecir and Hingis. Once the surprise effect is gone, you're finished!

Now fake-smash-drop, that's something else.

Simple solution. Pick a coach with passing shot sniper if you expect to play a S&V player/Tino Perf. The angles and lobs you can hit with PSS makes it a lot easier to beat a S&V player.

Except there are only 3 gold coaches with that skill and they all require a deep OBL/DBL setup.
