help a noob with some questions?

After I signed up for Netflix through my PS3, I think there was some online updates, and the result is that my self-created player is now way worse in Career mode (he's still good in Exhibition mode). I was moving along in the Very Hard setting, got my guy up to the 20 skill level, and after the Netflix update he just sucks. No more power on groundstrokes and leaving a lot of shots in the middle of the court. I have no chance of winning any matches at Very Hard, and I can't beat the top players even on Hard now either. Is there a way to reset everything back to the original settings? It's just really frustrating to have the game so easy on Exhibition mode, but brutal on Career mode.

Also, after you get to the 20 skill level, is there any way to still improve your player (i.e. more power)? Or that's it?

This is the only video game I play. I'm not too serious about it, I just want it to be fun.

The only way to prevent the patch from happening is don't sign in PSN. This way you'll play pre-patched.

once updated, it maintain the patch regardless i'm signing in or not?
i heard the patch wasn't stored on disk but downloaded every time i login. is it true?

On the xbox there are 2 different things, the update and the patch. The update is run/controlled by Xbox, meaning if you decline the update you will be signed out of xbox live and you can only play the game offline. The patch is run/controlled by the topspin specific server. It is applied every time you pass a certain screen if the server is working. If the server is not working the patch cannot be applied.
