Gameplay differences between gender

Postby Corbon » Mon, 28 Nov 2011 00:24

So with a 98 SRV 98 PWR set up I noticed that my female player's serves would top out at 215 km/h (133 mp/h) and my male's player's serves with the same setup would top out at 234 km/h (145 mp/h). While this seems logical, it's defied by the fact that physical stats seem to have no effect on anything whatsoever. So you could create a male with the lowest possible physics (1,68m, 56kg) and a female with the highest possible stats (1,87m, 74kg) and the serve speed would not change.

So now the question arises if there are any other differences in power on regular shots between genders or is it only the serve speed?

Here are some reference values from my players. I have hit those max serves on many occassions.

Female
98 SRV 98 PWR: 215 km/h
91 SRV 90 PWR: 206 km/h (Babb's skills don't seem to affect serve speed)
84 SRV 92 PWR: 205 km/h
100 SRV 67 PWR: 194 km/h

Male
98 SRV 98 PWR: 234 km/h
91 SRV 100 PWR: 234 km/h
testing...

It appears that the male serve speed is 9% faster according to the clock. With 30/30 Power /Serve you can reach speeds up to 100 mph / 161 kph by using a female char and 109 mph / 176 kph by using a male char.

Do the same angle serves with your male player then?

no definately not... in serve my Female Player is a much better And Stronger server than my Male Counter part who has the exact same set up and coach.

i get better angles with my Female player and it seems harder/stronger serve.

The only thing i could pick out is the difference in the Serving action when choosing it in the player creation as they really are different.

Ball toss is also different. Personally I like the female 1/4 toss the most, looks a bit like Steffi Graf. High and straight up in the air. On the other hand I don't like Roddick's toss at all.

Speaking of serve speed; After doing more tests, visually the serves look like male serves are slower but have more spin and female serves look faster but are flatter. But the clock says that males hit harder so apparently the clock isn't actually measuring the exact speed but just adding a certain km/h amount on top of it to make it look like male players have stronger serves "as it should be".

Now the question is, does it actually affect gameplay (return performance) or is it just for cosmetics?

Roddick too's when i was first playing him i either thought he was straight away going for the serve and volley or he was having an epileptic fit...... until i acutally chose him to play on 2K and quickly swapped players lol....

i couldn't say otherwise about the the clock... if it is acuall true or accurate.. maybe someone else on her could enlighten you on this subject but to be honest i never have paid that much attention to it... im already mashing the button to get to the next serve lol

In the Males Creation Player Mode.. i have only ever came across only 2 signature Service Motions.

all the time when makin a new player i have chosen the 1st one with the shortest motion, and regretedly i have just made a new player this week and chose the other one - which i majorly detest as my balls LOL (sorry 4 laughing) are getting NO way near the lines on either side.

As you asked about cosmetics...
I though that was the case about in Player Creation about hight weight and a big skinny neck for easy volleys lol... i was wrong...
But.... i doooooo think it is the case.. for the motion of serve for your player... my male player has always been rubbish for serving... may it be the wrong setup or coach - OR abilities... but no way near the tragic service motion on the second option where he kinds of throws it out wide and curves back into the rackets trajectory.
I may be wrong here again so dont take my word for gospal.

Yeah physical stats don't affect the game at all. Small players have the same reach and hit smashes just as good as tall players.

And if they did, gamers would figure out the ideal height / weight distribution and create their players around it. :P

On the other hand, putting 15 or more in OBL for example could make your player appear bulkier.

REALLY... i never noticed that... although i did try to make a player and replicate him but he was no way near the same size as "CHUNK" from the Goonies i was aiming for lol.... good to know...

Yeah with the tall situation i automatically though thought they would be better servers, good at the net and a demons for overhead smashes lol...
Damn.... i wish i was never brought up with Virtua Tennis Series (ohh i just SWORE)....

UPDATE

So there's a serve speed difference between genders but your player's height ALSO affects serve speed and in some cases whether you press the RB (R3) button or not. This also applies to CPU chars*. I did some tests with female chars and different heights and R3 button presses or not. Every time I did a perfect flat risk shot without aim. Weight seemed to have no effect.

Top speed achieved during a best of 3 game vs Hard CPU, 30 SRV, 30 POW, female char.

160cm: 142 km/h
160 cm + R3: 151 km/h (might be faster, only did a few serve games)
187cm: 161 km/h
187 cm + R3: 161 km/h (this seems to be the maximum speed for a 30/30 set up and maximum height. Conincidentally this is 100 mph)

Using a male char with the same setup would provide 9% higher speeds throughout but it's not completely height based since a 186cm tall male char would still serve faster than 161 km/h (around 168 km/h top I think). The maximum speed was 176 km/h with or without R3 button pressed, maximum height and 30 SV, 30 POW.

*Using Ana Ivanovic (186cm, 61 SV, 73 POW) I would consistantly produce faster speeds than one of my smaller female chars with 69 SV, 73 POW.

So height does seem to affect gameplay to a certain extend, it would be nice to know whether it als affects other aspects like range or if increased weight makes you slower but hit harder etc.
