ITST adopts new set of rules

Postby SlicerITST » Mon, 23 May 2011 22:53

EDIT: Rules were revised and can be found here:
http://www.intertopspintour.net/forum/v ... hp?t=16609

As you may or may not know we at ITST are proud of the fact that fair play is one of our top priorities. We are a community of people that like to win games but not when there is absolutely no fun to be had while doing it. Over the years this has meant we adopted several rules for all of our tours. Mostly to counteract some bugs but sometimes also to steer the tour in the way that we think would increase the popularity and fun factor.

Top Spin 4 is the newest addition to the Top Spin series. Personally i love the game and seeing the sign up numbers of the tour there are a lot of people out there that share this opinion. Of course it has proven not to be for everyone and some regular TS3 members left which is unfortunate but was to be expected. Overall this game is loved and appreciated.

The problem is that in the last few weeks this community has built up a bit of a love/hate relationship with the game. We want to be pro-active in this matter and this is why we have decided the following.
Starting at Roland Garros you will no longer be allowed to use any coach that has the Monster Defense skill. On top of that you will not be allowed to use Peto Chesire as a coach and his Top Spin Invasion / Poisoned Slice skill set.

The coaches that fall into this category are:

Peto Chesire
Jon Samala
Pei Jinq Quah
Aja Golakov

We know 2K Sports will release more balancing updates in the nearby future but as i said we want to be pro-active and give our members the best playing experience out there. Once new balancing updates are released we will review the exclusion of these coaches of course.

I am sure we will see a storm of positive and negative reactions from within the community. In the end you have to realise though that at the moment playing against someone with such a coach is just no fun and takes out any creativity and potential this game has to offer.

I just want to add big thanks to all you, members. Your feedback via constant pms, Xbox messages and forums helped us fine-tuned this decision.

Needless to say that this is a big step forward for us.

ITST,

I have read your thread, I have absorbed it, I have re-read it and it just confirms absolutely why I love this site. Since I joined in June 2009 I have never looked back - through all the decisions you and the team have ever made I always knew it was for the better of the site. You have to put it lightly - "EXCELLED YOURSELVES".

Good judgement does not come over night, it comes through diligence, patience, reason and understanding the wider perspective. The decision you have made will come as a great and unprecedented piece of news to all the true tennis simmers. As a wise man once said to me...

"Sometimes you have to get rid of the extra weight if you want to build lean muscle"

Getting rid therefore of overpowered coach setups is absolutely all about getting rid of excess weight and gaining lean muscle in other coach setups.

For the community reading this take it from someone who knows. My story is I came in TS3 some 2 years ago and I had the same philosophy as any other gamer. I wanted to win and I didn't understand the restrictions. The moment I had a few weeks of ITST under my belt I knew what all the fuss was about - quite simply I got it. Due to the restrictions it made me a better player and as a result it forced me to discover the full depth to the topspin series and as a result of not only patience but also ITST's Managements sound judgement calls on rules, the SIM tour then landed and I climbed to Number 1 in the World SIM (TS3)

Bringing it to the present day in TS4 I am in the Top 3 of the World rankings and 75% of my wins have been using non over powered setups - It can be done. For any members who feel that this announcement is due to other members complaining because they can't win it can't be further away from the truth. I can use Topspin Invasion Monster Defense for example and bring down the world but it is no fun. It is no fun for me and it is no fun for my opponent.

The rule changes will encourage members to use the dozens of other coach setups available - now members can trial with all sorts of coach skills and stats and not have to worry about playing an overpowered setup or using one themselves to counter it. Don't get me wrong, there are other strong setups but ITST, myself and many others have invested a lot of time in experimenting with all setups and it there are clearly a bunch that dominate. ITST values all members and their opinions and all opinions have absolutely been taken into account over the last 2 months.

Topspin 4 is NOT all about defending to you are blue in the face from "Monster Defense" or cross court topspin balls from "Topspin Invasion". It is about variety and using all the shots to the best of your ability. Slice, flat, power, control shots, serve volley, drop shot - intelligence.

As ITST management stated a lot of valued TS3 legends have left the site due to the over powered setups and we don't want to loose anymore. More importantly we don't want to loose any new member reading this thread who may be concerned about the change because being part of the site, community and tournaments is what it is all about.

You have my respect and support, as always.

Big sigh of relief...you guys amaze me. Thank goodness the new rules are in place before a grand slam. I've lost my match in the French MS Qualis against a Quah fan but hopefully can pull off some wins on the women's side when it starts :D

New era starts, now we will be able to see who, really, the best player is, with no unrealistic abilities the real talent will show up.

I am very happy for this decision, now matches will be more realistic and more funny. I believe that it has been very guessed right to make it before Roland Garros. Although everything would have been perfect if it had been limited to less than 90 the power. But little by little we go making a more realistic game.

I like the rule, but right before the french. Im getting ready to play my qualifying match and now have to use a new player. But I guess it will bring about better tennis. just wish it was a bit earlier, so i could have adjusted a little bit.

I know some nice builds for you to try Luke that I think may suit your game. Let me know.
