Newbie here, got a couple of questions

Postby Yepega » Thu, 24 Mar 2011 07:47

Hello, I am a newbie here and I am really excited that I found this site, I never thought there would be such a dedicated and organized community for playing Top Spin, so far I love it, I am really looking forward to making my debut in the tour (at my home tournament, Pereira :) ) A little background, I am a Colombian (apparently the only one so far on the PS3 Top Spin 4 Tour) living in the U.S., 23 years old, previously played Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast, Virtua Tennis 3 on the PC, and a little bit of Top Spin 2 on the PC, and I regularly follow the ATP and WTA Tour.
Anyway, my questions are about the ranking and seeds for tournaments. Since I think I should start with the challengers given that I am probably not in the same league as most of you here, is anybody able to enter any tournament? Do you need a high ranking for masters or Grand Slams? Can a high ranked player play in a challenger? if not, what is the cut off? Are all the ATP tournaments played? how about challengers?
I know this is a lot of questions but I have been inspecting every link on this site and I can't find these answers. I am hoping you guys can help me out.

Welcome to ITST. :)

Anybody is able to enter any regular tournament(non challengers/futures). So at the moment we have no cut off point for Grand Slams or Masters. Mainly because the tour has never been big enough. If the tour is successful it might happen though. Its first come first serve for now though.

As for challengers. Usually there is a max ranking. Players that are ranked below 40 are eligible to participate these tournaments. But of course there is no ranking yet. So the first few weeks the guys that want to play challengers might face some stiff competition. There are gonna be some top players that will just participate for a tournament win. Things will level out over time though.

For the time being the tour seems to be popular enough that we can host all the ATP tournaments, a few challengers and hopefully soon also futures (ranked 100+).

Thanks for your answer. So, will we have a ranking right after the tournaments that start April 4 are over? or do we have to wait for more tournament to have a ranking?

After the tournaments that started 4 April we have a ranking. This ranking will determine which tournaments can be played and will determine the seedings of a tournament. This will take about 2 weeks.
