not true for all video gm genres, tho. there are many pro video gamers in south korea who make $xxx,xxx per year and are media superstars.
that said, you are right about ts4. its only a competitive hobby.

WOW players and SF players have made money but those two games have a huge fanbase and have been around for a long time. I also know Halo 2 was equitable for a time and Madden really was the first to carry large purses at tournaments. With the current global economy there is no way anybody is making 6 figure as an annual income.
