You are right, Welsch is a great coach, I can play control shots for hours now, but it is pretty frustating when you have guys that throw everything at you, even the kitchen sink, and play 10 feet behind the baseline playing catch the ball. With a well done drop shot you move them out of their "comfort zone" once, then they go back 10 feet and do the same, so I do the drop shot again, then the same happens for 10 more times till the opponent realizes that he has to play closer to the baseline or he will suffer another drop shot point....... So that is what happens usually, they will get closer to the baseline, and then it is much easier for me to win with control or power shots rather than having a 60 plus rally every single time.
Tennis is a mind game and playing with your opponent mind is a very powerful weapon, and the drop shot is just that.
I played you more then a few times. I would not place you in a category of someone who overusing drop-shots. Maybe its the way I play, but you have not used that many against me at all.
BTW, if the guy is 10 feet behind the baseline, control cross court shot will make him look rather silly and cough up a soft ball. Of course as I mentioned, you need to have the timing to execute it, it is way harder to do it right then to pull a dropper

You can also finish points at net with Welsh. Especially so if your opponent is 10 feet behind the baseline.
Don't get me wrong, you should use drop shots with any player, maybe a few more with welsh. But a few in my mind is 2-3-4 a match. Not a game or a set. Once again, the skill is meant to make your droppers better, not for you to use them as the only weapon.
I am not trying to offend you or anybody else, but I think if you feel otherwise, a change of coach maybe best?
I understand why this coach is appealing. High strokes stamina and speed make him easy to use when it comes down to chasing balls and pushing them back. But if you feel using tons of drop shots is necessary to score points - then you are not tapping into the coach potential, you basically using him because you CAN put your racket on m ore balls then with other coaches.
Like I said, I will be glad to play you and suggest what may work for you better, if you interested of course!
