used this strategy against a TS/MD guy, he eventually just started hitting deep hard slices then used that to get an easy top spin shot.

Not a big fan of these setups at all, just no weakness.

I think serve and volley is (theoretically) the best answer to that style of play....how can they get their TI activated if they can only hit one shot in a rally (the return)??

Yes it is probably a monstrous pain in the ass to break them with an S and V player but it's definitely possible.

You can roll through service games so fast with serve and volleying, though, that it's really demoralizing to the other guy...it's intimidating when he is going through service games at love or at 15 and you're being pushed to deuce or 40/30 almost every time.

I agree. A lot of pros don't though, or commentators don't at least. By Winning a game saving deuces and bp's the commentator will always say 'good hold' which yeah it is, as they wasn't broken. If a game like that happens after the commentators will be like "another great hold from ???, he must be really frustrating ???'. I can see why getting real close to breaking but not is annoying, but isld rather be the guy holding easily and making chances to break than the guy not making a dent and just clinging on to my service games

Man just got done playing like 8 or 9 2K Open matches, and.....DAMN a lot of people forfeit!!!

I think 4 or 5 of them forfeited after I broke them.

Ranging from crap players to quite good (to me at least) players.

Stupid...

The only match I lost tonight, I lost the Super Tie breaker 10-0

If my ego can take that kinda blow so can yours, so just friggin suck it up!

It's not that easy if you play somebody who decides to lob return your serve every time.

I agree..
I play a lot of TI/MD players with my S&V style, and, depending on how good they are, I can have a LOT of trouble holding serve.
I often do better in my return games...
I find that, against good (i.e., strategically clever) TI/MD guys, you can't S&V effectively more than 50% of the time. Not sure if this is always due to them, or just because sometimes the lag ruins the timing enough that you can't put away balls at the net / get to the net fast enough.
When that happens, I try to come in after I return their return of serve. Like a very aggressive 1-2 punch. Then S&V when you can.

Anyone have any good strategies for serve and volleying when the lag messes up your timing, or against a spectacular returner?

Spectacular returner - Just make sure your serve is as varied as possible, with spins and speeds, as close to the lines as possible, cover the angles well, hit at least good timing on every volley, and be prepared to hit many half-volleys and chase down lobs.

Lag, nothing can be done

And you should never have any problem with lob returns. Maybe you'd get surprised by one, but those are easy put aways.

Serving has become insanely difficult.

I use Rafter a lot, who has a good serve rating, and online I can do little more than hit the ball right down the middle of the box.

They need to take lag into account when tweaking the serves like this...maybe it looks really easy offline but being online where almost every match has some kind of lag...there is not enough margin for error. It's not just me either...almost every single person I've played online has had a pretty mediocre serve, nobody really seems to be able to dominate from the 1st shot...

No UE's+weakened serves= retardedly long rallies on almost every point.

Well, somehow I had to play 20 or so of these TI/MD types in a row on WT.

I can safely say that I'm going to have a big laugh if 2k Sports ever balances the game (doubt they will) and these guys lose their source of easy victories.

Ohhhhh yeah !
It'll be sooo hilarous !
Especially that I had to improve my game style to win, sometimes, against those setup!! ^^

But, like you, I doubt they will release a balance update... Infortunatly !

They need to fix slices. It ruins the game when your opponent resorts to slicing every single ball. This problem existed in ts3 and somehow they made it worse in ts4.

Got one today !!
N°8 women WT...

TI/MD : "Go f$ck yourself with your drop shot, you poor jerk!" (I did approximatively 1 or 2 drop shot a game)

Me: "Thanks, you too but without Pei Jing Quah  , GG :) "

Played him before... Always lost against him and by far.

Is this a sign that us, moaner, were right?
