If its like last time then SIM will start completely from scratch. However i can see some possibilities:-

1.) start from scratch
2.) rankings from normal tour carry over (unlikely i think)
3.) SIM rankings from TS3 carry over (extremely unlikely i think)

However on TS3, there was a 'prototype' sim tour which was really different, before the roster was introduced, and those points gained in this period carried over when the roster system was finalised.

I really really really hate the 'no FH power slice' rule, it really makes literally no sense. Why is a FH slice any worse than a BH slice?? Just cuz of how it looks?? I mean, you guys really don't find that silly? How do you KNOW for 100 percent sure that somebody is using power slices as opposed to control slices?? Why does it even matter?? That rule needs to go.

btw the 'l' key on my keyboard got stuck during this post, and I fixed it by repeatedly hitting the keyboard as hard as I could

I was thinking maybe doing a mix of the two things could give us a good seeding ranking, because the normal tour ranking reflects a lot but cant reflect it all , specially for newcomers of the regular tour who might be ranked 200 but are at least a top 20.

It could be mixing the rankings from the normal tour, and the rankings resulting from the warm up tournaments, give each ranking an specific weight and make an average.

Yeah, I can talk about what i do and i usually use the forehand slice to get on the run to some balls that are pretty tough to reach, and 99,9% of the time those are deep control slices, but my opponent will may just say I was power slicing with my forehand and I will have no way to proove that it wasnt powered but done as a control shot. There is a very very very thin line been drawed here, and i think we have to have this thing clear before the first tournament in order to identify the power part of the forehand slice.

I think (defensive) forehand slices are necessary, especially as a S&V who has zero baseline game. I'm assuming the rule just means 'don't abuse/overuse FH power slice'....
Forehand (power) slice also makes for a great approach shot, once in a while. I use that strategy IRL as well..

now that a sim tour is in place are there gonna be set rules for the regular tour because they are badly needed there needs to be some kind of stat like with the 40-90 one on ts3

I still prefer the rule of just one stat by 85 points or more. IMO, It would be possible to limit any super setup in a good way.

EDIT: And allow just 1 wing in the red area...

Yea would work too but hopefully when the sim tour is fully up and running these options are explored because something desperately needs to be done the one red wing stat could work work

Wait wait wait, crap, I hold the button early half the time to ensure I get a full power shot.

So I can't hold slice anymore? Couldn't someone logically keep hitting to my forehand intermittantly to lock me into not being able to power slice if I want to? And just call it the moment I do (or say that I did even though I control sliced perfectly)?

Aww, there's gotta be a better solution.

What about returning with a S&V character on return, wanting to chip and charge. They have to control volley the serve?

I agree with loki re: pre-pressing... when i made the effort to stop doing it i found myself getting wrong-footed a lot less. As for SV, other than the odd time thrown in to mix things up, it's generally better to pick the right approach shot mid-rally rather than charging off the return.. besides, you can't really 'chip' with a power slice anyway, if you want to come to the net off a return a control slice will buy you enough time to get there...

I do agree though that it's very easy to accidentally FH slice, and I've found myself not slicing as much as i perhaps should do just in case it goes to my FH and i can't react in time. I guess though if someone's consistently doing it to the point where it looks ridiculous then that'd be pretty obvious and unambiguous...

Understood, and I appreciate the tips.

There are certain reasons why I choose the shots I choose when I choose them, and I've been fairly successful in the games I've played thus far.

If I can react to the left-right start of the ball and know the movement ideas behind tennis, I don't have to worry about being wrongfooted. And if I would like to hit a power shot as soon as I'm able, I need to be able to hold the button.

Which means it's an extra decision that has to pass through my mind, whether or not it's safe to hold slice anymore.

Guys, forehand power slices are "cheese-based" rule. That doesn't meant "not allowed", it means "do not abuse".

Using Forehand slices to generate points for example would be cheese. But accidentally charging the slice on the run on defense - no problem. ...of course if you constantly on defense charge your slices it is cheesy. There is no need to charge if you know you are on defense and running, a well timed control slice is your "squash shot" on defense....or you can attempt to counter with flat.

I mean, it is rather clear to me. Maybe its me, but I rarely get caught with FH power slice, maybe 1-3 times a match. Before I press any button, I look for a direction of the ball. If this is a FH - then I hit top spin or flat, if this is a BH - slice or top spin or flat.

I think for any real tennis fan it is simply needless to explain that when you have time you should not power up your forehand slice for a winner

...as well as the fact that in tennis you react, rather then predict. Works in real life - works in TS4. Try it ;)

Control is your rally shot, power is your put-away shot. Follow this rule and you will not hit a single forehand slice, unless you consciously choose to do so.
