Any news on the TS4 patch?

Postby Wrathchild tw » Tue, 19 Apr 2011 01:00

It's been awhile now since it was said that there was a patch in the works. Nothing was said publicly about it but some ITST staff claim to have an inside line on the information and relayed that 2K was working on a release.

Anything new there?

i believe they are slowly releasing balancing updates.

We just have to be patient.

It's only been a month since the game was released. I'll be happy if the game is at a stable state after 3 months.

In my opinion accepting that a game not be stable until three months after release is far too lenient - these aren't minor issues we're facing.

I'd also say that if it isn't fixed for three months after release the game will be long abandoned by the majority. The large number of matches so far that are walkovers shows how many people have already dropped the game.

But aside from the opinions, I was hoping to hear if there was any solid information on where it stands?

I imagine they'd have to run tests on the changes to see how it affects the balancing, and other factors I have absolutely no idea about... so it is gonna take time. In terms of who knows what, the moderators only send 2K suggestions, but idk if 2K gives us insight as to what they're changing until the patch is released.

They've been real busy though the past month (first patch, shutting down cheaters with super-high stats on 360). I imagine that was a LOT to deal with given the high amount of play on WT etc.

Like Stallion said it's best to be patient.

How experienced are you with new releases of gaming games? They usually take about this long to reach a stable state...

Care to back that up with any factual statistics? I'm quite sure you're way off on that comment.

Games "usually" take 3 months to reach a decently stable state?

I'd rather see an patch for the online modes, especially World Tour.
If it stays like this a few weeks longer, I'm pretty sure it will be abandoned by most of the good players. I'm not even sure how they were allowed to release it like that. 2k Open works just fine, so why -of all modes- is World Tour (the heart of the online modes) so god damn buggy?

Very disappointing. Sorry for my rant, but a few hours ago I lost my complete World Tour statistics even though I was #1 for once.
Last time didn't work out because the game failed to connect me in my last final and rewarded me with a loss. I'm sure that sounds familiar to some of you.

If they expect to keep their players, they should patch it fast.

I agree, confirmed bugs should be patched up ASAP. Balance issues are more delicate and should be done with caution.

a) Starcraft 2 didn't need a patch as badly as TS4 does.
b) That's one game, hardly what would be defined as "usual for games".
c) That's less than 2 months and you're talking about 3 months.

Also, I was never talking about balancing, I'm talking about the massive game bugs.

Yeah not really good comparison because sc2 had betas and that and was pretty goddamn balanced, a few lil exploits but if topspin had the balance of sc2 has had for awhile then ts4 would be almost perfect.

Even a better comparison then in my opinion. They had a 2 or 3 month beta release to test the balance before the full release. So they really didn't get the game to a "stable state" until almost 3 months in. I suppose TS4 could have had a beta release too, then maybe everyone would have been happier waiting until the end of May to get the game and have it already stable.

And even still, there was some serious balance issues at full release. The common opinion was that Terran was too dominant. And when you only have 3 races, you really can't afford ANY balance issues.

Once again I am not talking about balance patches, I'm talking about bug patches. The balance issues in this game are nothing compared to the software programming faults.

And TS4 most likely did have a beta phase, it just wasn't public like SC2 because not so many people cared about it. IF they didn't have an internal beta phase before release, well that would be a very odd decision for any software developer. It would explain the game's state, but not excuse it.. nearly every group beta tests their games before release.
