Explanation for "Shot Counter" please

Postby gameshoes3003 » Fri, 08 Apr 2011 20:14

So my coach gives me "Shot Counter" as a skill.
Shot Counter:
"Use the power of your opponent's shot to perform a counter by returning it with a well timed Flat Finesse (A)".

Well, knowing that there are three types of shots, Control, Normal, and Power, which do I use here?
I'm also assuming this requires perfect timing.

Then does this also work against serves?

Help please, thanks.

Tap A (x) I believe. If it's perfect, I'm pretty sure that shot will be returned at the same pace as the shot you countered. It's most noticeable on flat or top spin shots.

^ Above is correct. Shot Counter works great in combination with fast player, not so much with slower player.

Basically, it replicates the balls speed and sends it back. So you need to tap A at the right time and on HARD balls. Doing it on a rather soft shot will most times result in same soft shot going back to opponent.

You could. But that would make the skill redundant. If its gonna go back at the same pace it came at you at, why not just try and get it as precise as possible? Holding and releasing will just return it at the same pace, just less precise than just tapping A(X on PS3).

ahhh but not exactly  (maybe I understood you wrong)

If lets say you have 80 power and I have 60, no matter how long I hold - I can't match your power, I can't counter your power.

What shot counter does, is Counters the opponent power. Which means if you have less power but you are equipped with the Counter Shot skill - you can feed of opponents pace and match him pound for pound!

Very useful skill, but it is a skill that needs - erm ... SKILL! :wee

Well shoot, I have 84 power and I'm about to level it one more time once I get to level 20 which will make it 87...

How useful is this skill for me then?

It may help in cases where you don't have time to charge up a full-powered hit.

I agree with what you said - You can't counter a player with a higher power level, unless you have Shot Counter.

What I was trying to saying is that when using Shot Counter, your counter shot is likely to be the same speed whether or not you tap it or hold it. This means the best idea is to tap it, and make it more precise. This is rather than holding the button, reducing the precision while also not increasing(or increasing very minutely) the pace of your own shot.

I think if you charge the shot, you will actually get less power (if your character has less than your opponent). I don't think the skill kicks in unless you use the control shot.

Has anyone actually seen it work though? I mean has anyone played a character with this skill and returned a strong serve with a shot that is stronger than what they would otherwise be capable of?

I've has this skill on nearly all of my world tour games and I've never seen it actually be a benefit.

Ditto, and with Serena I've seen her hit winners off that shot on the defense. I could be on offense but with her shot counter skill it can change quickly. It's definitely a good idea for less offensive players.

Yes. I have used a character with that skill and it works like a charm. With proper timing of course.
